I took Lexapro for only 2 days and stopped because I felt horrible. The nausea and insomnia was bad and I felt mentally fuzzy but the main reason for stopping was the anxiety. I almost could not work and felt a fear of people almost to the point of panic. I thought that Lexapro was supposed to help with anxiety - has anyone else experienced this problem and if so does it go away? I thought of trying it again but starting out at 5 mg/day if it will eventually help. Any input would be most helpful!

You should definitely start out with a low dose and increase slowly. Also, ask your pdoc for a prescription for a few tranquilizers to keep on the shelf in case you have a panic attack.
It can be difficult and scary to start out on an SSRI. The really nerve wracking anxiety should go away in a few days. Within a week or two the drug should help with anxiety, a lot.
Tough it out for the next few days. It will be worth it.

Thanks a lot for the support. I already am taking a low dose of Xanax but it didn't seem to help at all - I may have to double up for the first few days or week.

I agree with Anyuser! I am SO glad I stuck it out for those first few days! I feel pretty great on the Lexapro now. Try to stick with it for a bit longer, maybe the s/e's will go away or at least decrease. Good luck!

What is the increased anxiety on Lexapro due to? Norepinephrine levels?
