Paxil and Efexor together ?

Posted by ben on July 6, 2001, at 14:01:20

Does have experiences with taking Paxil together with Efexor ? I was on Celexa with Efexor for a while, then it pooped out. Now I am on 40 mg Paxil and probably I will need a augmentation drug.
Theoretically there s an interaction between paroxetine (strong CYP2D6 inhibitor) and Venlafaxine (substrate of CYP2D6). I heared of people taking the combo Prozac/Efexor instead it shows the same interaction like Paxil.

I am currently on 40 mg of Paxil and 75mg of Effexor. These are the only drugs I am on. I think the two work fantastic together. I think my depression was a bit a-typical, and that is why effexor helped. I am currenty going to try to lower my paxil dose and up my effexor dose because I am experiencing excessive sweating. That is reported with Paxil. So, we are going to see if I do ok with a little less paxil and more effexor. I like the combo because the paxil works so well on the anxiety , but can sometimes be a bit sedating. The effexor speeds you up a bit, countering the "stoney" feeling I get on Paxil. Let me know if you have any questions. Also, wait a while for the Paxil to kick in. You might need more than 40.

I guess your swaeting comes from Efexor. I had this side effect too, when I was taking 150 mg of Efexor ER. Paxil could cause it too but less frequent than Efexor believe me.

What did your doc say about this combo ?

well, he put me on effexor because i seemed to have some loopholes in my depression that paxil wasn't filling. paxil definately helped with the anxiety and it made me feel a lot better, but i didn't feel like i had found the answer on my meds.

my doc thought he would try effexor, which works on the norepinehrine receptor. he called this more of an atypical depression-whatever he meant by that. he also thought that effexor would be a nice complimentry drug, which would speed me up a bit, because paxil dopes you out a bit.

i think you wrote somewhere else in the list that you are feeling pretty doped out by paxil. the dopiness goes away. i guess more what i am getting at is the complacency (sp?) on paxil. i was so chilled out and cool on paxil, it started to bug me. things would happen to me that should have bugged me or gotten me off my *ss, and didn't. effexor helped me with this.

Hi...

Itīs better to add Celexa to Effexor. There is no interaction between them.

Best of luck
