What so great about Klonopin?

Posted by Carlos on May 5, 2002, at 17:44:56

It's said by some on here to cause dis-inhibition...almost comparable to having a few drinks of alcohol even??

I've been on 1mg morning and 1mg night for about 2 months now. (I'm on the generic, if that helps at all)

It makes me so groggy in the morning. I have to have someone wake me up every morning or else I won't get up untill 3pm.

Although it eases my social anxiety, it doesn't make me feel like I had a few drinks....wait...I take that back, for about the first 5 hours after I wake up I feel really good (Im talkative, feel like I could take on any social encounter) but then I crash. I don't want to do anything, I usually get depressed and want to sleep.

I also sometimes take 5mg of dexedrine in the morning (sometimes again in the evening) to "get me up and going"...could this be counter acting with the Klonopin?

I tried JUST the dexedrine one day to see if that would do anything...OMG...NEVER AGAIN. I was a horrible nervous and depressed wreck.

Any suggestions. I have a doc appointment tomorrow morning. Anyone think upping the doesage would help?

I've seen to have become a bit tolerate to it, since it doesn't knock me out like it used to, so I don't even think I need dexedrine anymore???

Thanks in advance.

I felt the same way in some regards when I started Klonopin. Very tired and
apathetic. But it helped to stabilize my mood and reduce agitation substantially.

After a number of months the positive effects of Klonopin wore off. A maintanance
dose of the medication basically kept me about where I was before I started taking the
medicine. Raising the dose helped, but eventually I escalated to very high doses.

This is just 1 data point. Other people take Klonopin for years without developing
tolerance.

Take Care,
John

Carlos,

I am diagnosed bipolar. Part of the reason I was taking Klonopin
was because it fixed myofacial pain.

I found that Topamax also fixed my myofacial pain and tapered my
Klonopin from 6 mg to 2 mg in about 6 weeks. I tried to taper the
last 2 mg, but gave up (too painful).

I miss the calming effect of Klonopin. I haven't found a suitable
replacement. Neurontin is probably a good substitute and it did help
with my agitation, but not with my headaches. My doctor did prescribe
Adderall for a while to help offset the lethargy from the Klonopin and
the combination was effective until I developed Klonopin tolerance.
The Adderall (or dexedrine) is good for some people to help be more sociable.

After I grew tolerant to the Klonopin, I had extreme difficulty
falling asleep and had to rely heavily on OTC sleep aids to knock
me out. I later found Remeron,Serzone, and Zyprexa to be good adjuncts.

Take Care,
John

The Klonopin Mystique » Carlos

I've tried to figure out the Klonopin Mystique before. I've never tried Klonopin, but I have tried a few other benzos and was not impressed.

Anyway, lots of folks here claim that Klonopin is somehow different, that it does wonders for people.

I think for me it would just cause more lethargy and apathy.
