I'm looking to see if anyone has encountered any adverse affects whilst taking Imitrex? I'm currently having to take a tablet every day just to get thru the day. I've had 100mg (cut in half and taking each within an hour) everyday now for a little over 2 weeks. I started out with the shots, but those are so bloody expensive compared to the amount of tablets you get. I constantly feel like I have indegestion and/or am going to have a colitis attack. I swear I'm going to get my husband to start burping me here soon!! *lol* Has anyone had bad gastro problems or felt a really bad burning sensation in your stomach?
Any comments will be GREATLY appreciated.

In reply to Imitrex Side Affects?, posted by Scheherizade on March 15, 2002, at 9:32:13
Hi. I never had those side effects on Imitrex. I took it for 2 years, but it pooped out. You may want to try taking it with a little food. I have found Maxalt [also a trytan] to be better than Imitrex. You might want to try it [with your doc's ok] to see if you feel better on it. I first took 5 mgs Maxalt a couple of times to get used to it, but usually 20 mgs does it for me for migraines. The only side effect I had was a lump in the throat feeling in the beginning for a couple of times. You can halve the Maxalt 10 mgs [tablet; not the melt under your tongue type] to double your medication. Im fortunately to have a prescription plan via mail. I know how expensive it can be. My sister used to get Imitrex in Mexico for me years ago when my coverage did not include it. Try it with food [no grapefruit juice] and take a lot of water with it; that could the problem also. Good luck.
