remeron: dose, length of treatment, withdrawal

Posted by strong-in-new-york on March 9, 2001, at 16:13:16

Has anyone out there be on Remeron for more than
four years?

Has anyone ever been on 75 mgs of Remeron regularly?

And has anyone ever tapered off Remeron completely--
without adding another med?

Thanks.

Dear Strong in New York,

I'm taking just 30 mg of Remeron. It's been a year now. Both my Doc and Physc stopped my med.
I went cold turkey. It was awful. So I am back on. I did have withdrawls. I had back pain, nausea, stomach acid and lost my appatite. I also lost a lot of sleep. I got very run down.
Have you had any success in tapering?
And did you suffer any withdrawals?

I have been taking 75mg for about 3 weeks now and don't feel like I am taking anything most of the time. My main symptom is Shortness of breath. I still have panic attacks and am thinking about lowering my dose on my own to about 45 as reccomended buy the makers of Remeron. I am a little worried about how fast I should drop my dose. Any advice would be helpful.

I was on it twice this year. On 30mg for 4 months and then went cold turkey and was on nothing for 3 months . I didn't get anywithdrawal at all.
Then I went back on it (just for sleep cos my GP doesn't think any meds will help anything else) but have just come off it because of weight gain after a couple of months. Now on nothing again and no withdrawal either.

I have taken Remeron for 4 1/2 years now. I have taken either 37.5 or 45 mg. a night (37.5 if I can't sleep as well, 45 if I feel a bit of depression creeping back in).

I have major depression and mild-moderate OCD. Both conditions are greatly helped by this drug. I have gained a dress size over the last 5 years, but I can't blame that all on Remeron.

Oh, by the way, has anyone heard of a drug being used in Europe that is "Remeronish without the side-effects"? My sister's pdoc mentioned the name to her but she can't remember. Just curious.

Remeron has been great for me...the increased appetite isn't too bad above 30mg according to my pdoc. He also said Remeron doesn't seem to "poop out" over time like the SSRIs sometimes do. I have to agree. This drug has helped to transform my life.

Big thumbs up for Remeron. Best wishes.

Jill
