Effexor XR withdrawl w/first reduction but not 2nd

Posted by girlie on August 28, 2001, at 12:46:52

Hi all,
I was on 300mg/day and went to 225mg/day last month. The withdrawls were moderate physically, and worse emotionally, and it took 3 weeks to stabilize.

I decided to reduce by 75mg again on Saturday and went to 150mg/day. I've had NO withdrawl symptoms! No dizziness, no emotional swings, no nothing! If things keep going well, I may try to go to 75mg next week.

Has anyone else experienced this?

>How long were you at 300mg? Are the effexor withdrawls stronger the longer you've been on the medication? Thanks

I was on 300mg for about 4 years.
If you mean, do I not have any withdrawl symptoms now because I was only on 225mg for 3 weeks, I don't know. I would think that elimination of this drug from my system would cause some kind of withdrawl, that's why I'm so surprised that I haven't had any withdrawls problems.

I started reducing from 300mg Effexor XR and had NO withdrawals at 225mg but has some slight nausea and head rush at 150mg. I've now been on 150mg for 1 month and plan on decreasing to 112.5mg soon.
Let you know how it goes.

Jocor,
I have also decreased my dose of Effexor XR from 300mg to 225mg and was just WAITING for some kind of withdrawal, but I have had NONE...but my doctor has added Wellbutrin SR 100mg 2x a day, which will help with my withdrawal. They have a very similiar chemistry. I will decrease by 37.5mg instead of 75mg to get to 150mg. I guess the transition was not too bad for you, huh??

I dont think I will completely go off of Effexor, but I want to reach the lowest dose possible with the Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin does not have much action with serotonin, whereas Effexor does. BTW, I love the Wellbutrin because it gives me energy, decreases my appetite, and helps augment the sexual side effects of the Effexor!!!

Just my 2 cents
Debbie
