serzone

I just started serzone this week. My doctor has me taking both doses at night to prevent nausea. I'm pretty groggy in the morning but no other side effects yet. Does it make you gain/lose weight? I'm starting with low doses this week and working my way up (one of those sample packs from the dr.). I've read lots of negative reports - any positive ones out there? =)

I know one doctor who has good success with Serzone, but he claims it's the way the drug is administered that leads to the success. He starts patients at either 25mg or 50mg per day as tolerated, and then has them increase the dose by 25mg every four days. For some reason he gets good results with this slow and low approach.

It is hard to find success stories with Serzone, but there are some. Some doctors don't even prescribe it anymore because they never had much luck with it. I think a classic mistake with Serzone is to start with too high of a dose and to increase too fast. Personally I feel the recommended schedule is too aggressive and leads to failure or intolerable side effects. Success stories do exist though. People here that have done well with Serzone usually did not experience it kicking in until the 4 to 8 week range.

The one doctor who has had a lot of success with the slow and low method of Serzone believes it has a therapeutic window. The slow and low approach allows the patient to discover where that therapeutic window is without blowing right past it.

> Thanks for the response, John. Not too encouraging but maybe I should hang in there. For some reason I'm feeling edgy and angry and wonder is that's something that levels out after a while.

My experience? Yes. For me it leveled out after a few weeks.

I've been taking Serzone since last June. It has worked well for me, and I"ve had no weight gain problems. In fact I lost a few lbs. I believe I lost weight because I was less anxious, and reached for comfort snacks less, but I'm not sure. I don't really think the serzone effected me along the lines of weight or appetite.

It did take me several weeks (maybe 6!) before the side effects lessened and almost diappeared. It was worth it because by then I was sleeping better, less anxious, and definately less depressed.

After increasing dosage slowly, I was taking 400 mg (2x per day), I did notice a problem with getting tired. Once this happened I told my Dr and backed off to 300 mg, and added Celexa. This change was after several months.

As they say, everyone is different. I definately had serious side effects in the first few weeks, and then it got better. I hope you have the posative experience I did. Hang in there.
