The continuing saga: My new p-doc is really good, and has been taking a conservative approach to my meds (which I like).
He first upped my Wellbutrin from 200 to 300, all to be taken in the morning.
Effexor 150 taken about 2-4 hours after Wellbu (Effexor is very sedating to me).
At bedtime, Effexor 150, Klonopin 1 mg.
Yesterday, after doing the med combo above for over a year with my other pdoc and limited success, he added .5 mg of Risperdal at bedtime. He said about 1% chance of Tardive. Plus, he said it sometimes takes a while before people notice anything from Risp.
So, we will see how this goes. He said he runs about 50-50 with patients having good response to Risp.
I'll keep ya'll updated as the saga continues.

Risperdal has been proven to speed up the action of antidepressants in a couple of studies. It is very well tolerated, and the chance of tardive is miniscule.

Shar - I like the idea of a tad of Risperdal to augment antidepressants. The risk of TD is much less than that, I am fairly sure, especially at this low dose. Perhaps ask your doc if you could start at 0.25mg (half of a tab) for about a week or two, to start. Many people using Risperdal as an augmenter can get away with this dose and the risks of movement disorders is further decreased (the risk of movement disorders at doses of Risperdal under 2mg daily is, in most people, very low, anyway). Besides, if the lower dose of 0.25mg isn't high enough, it's only a couple more weeks (sigh). You can expect to see some effect after a week or so, but full effect seems to take 8 to 12 weeks, depending upon the person.
Good luck sweetums and keep us informed on your progress - Cam

Hi Shar,
I'm really glad you were able to find a pdoc to work with (I think that's 95% of the battle). I find risperdal to be very energizing, but I take between 2-4mgs/day. I've had some akathesia problems, but that was at the higher dose. I hope it works well for you.- Judy

I get all spaced-out when I take more than 1.0mg of Risperdal. I become stupider than usual, and my ability to remember new things is all but gone. Has anyone else experienced this? How long does it take to disappear. My doctor told me that if it persists for longer than a week, it is unlikely that it will abate. What do you guys think?

SLS - Not exactly great news for the job-hunter/interviewee, eh? I'll let you know if I experience anything like that. So far (3 days) nothing; too soon, I think. Shar

Scott -
Don't have any experience yet w/risperdal, but fwiw, that's the effect that I get from prozac - even w/10mg per day. I don't suppose prozac had this effect w/you? michael
