Anyone off of Effexor more than a month??

Posted by taliesin ravenstone on September 21, 2000, at 19:46:09

Hi gang,

Just wondering if anyone has been of of effexor for more than a month. I just passed the 6 week mark and I still feel horrible. I spoke with a girl yesterday who told me it took her 4 months before she felt better. Whats the deal with this drug? Why would any withdrawal last that long? I'm at my wits end!! I feel great emotionally, but these physical symptoms are killing me. Achey joints, headaches, fatique, and head pressure to name only a few.

All I can say is THIS REALLY BITES.

Ok . . I'll get down off my pedestal now. Thanks for listening.

Tal

i completely understand what you are saying...i am now 46 days completely off of effexor. now that is not including the 2 months i tried to get off of it. the only thing that helped me was that my doctor finally added celexa at night and i gradually went down on the effexor until i was completely off of it. the celexa made it basically withdrawal free! (well, i felt so crappy for 2 months, i may of had withdrawal but it wasn't as bad as the two months before) did you start a new ad after effexor or are you on no meds at all?

I am completely med free now. I feel really good emotionally, it's just the physical symptoms that are killing me.

and the bad part about it is, you can't really see the light at the end of the tunnel! just something to pass along...when my withdrawal was at it's worst, i spoke to a man that owns a health food store that had been through the same thing. he suggested that you get, (oh hell, i can't remember the name of it), it is herbal and it will help cleanse out your system. he said that he feels like it really sped up the process for him. it helps flush out the poisons in your system (to say the least).

i am glad to hear that you are med free! i couldn't do it (the effexor withdrawal w/out something to help), so i admire anyone who can do that!

good luck to you!

I've been withdrawing (cold-turkey) for about 10
days. I have no insurance and this seemed as
good a time as any to stop the drug. I've been on
75 mg for over a year now and the side effects
were becoming quite bothersome, to say the least.
Sweats, painful joints, difficulty in thinking
clearly, inability to express myself (this for
a very verbal person). All of this for what was
probably only situational depression rather than
clinical depression in the first place.

The withdrawal feels deadly. A general achy
feeling that is so severe I constantly feel I'm
running a high fever (the thermometer says other-
wise). Difficulty with breathing is a withdrawal
symptom I haven't heard anywhere else but I've
experienced before even when missing a dose. My
vivid dreams are more like vivid nightmares. So
real that it takes quite some time to truly wake
up from them. My edginess and irritability is
causing me some problems at work. I don't quite
know how to tell my coworkers or supervisors that
what I'm experiencing is drug withdrawal.

It has certainly helped to read some of the
postings about others experiencing similar
problems with withdrawal. It also helps to hear
my professors talk about the seriousness of
serotonin withdrawal. I'm a clinical grad psych
student and you can bet that I'll think twice
before recommending medication for my clients when
I'm licensed! I know that psychotropic meds can
be lifesaving but I also know that they are
prescribed way too quickly and carelessly these
days.

I'm very interested in reading any other postings
regarding long-term withdrawal success. Please
continue to provide updates.

Thanks Bryan! I'm reading it today and you're right - it does have a lot of useful information.
