For the last several days I haven't been able to access the Psychosocial babble site at all and up until yesterday was even unable to access the PB site. If I go to PB and try to link to PS-B, I get the beginning of the site (eg just Dr Bob's picture) and then the image freezes. I don't know the first or last thing about computers but the bar that shows that the page is being loaded always freezes at 9% and tells me that the host has been contacted and they are awaiting a reply. What's really strange to me is that if I then try to link back to PB, a fuller image of the PS-B page instantly comes on until the transfer to PB is complete. This larger image has the introductory verbiage and maybe the first 4 postings on the site and then says "transfer interrupted." Even though I've been able to access the PB site more recently, the response time to get to the site (or to open postings) seems much longer, than previously experienced. I can live with that, but it's very frustrating not to be able to access psychosocial babble at all. Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone else had trouble maneuvering around this site? ksvt (silent but not necessarily by choice)

I've had similar problems the past few nights. PB and PSB have been incredibly slow loading -- that is if they load at all. This evening seems faster. I dunno what's up.

I've been able to get in fine as long as I go to Dr.Bob's Main Page first www.dr-bob.org , then click on the Psycho Babble link, then from the Psycho Babble page, click the PSB link at the top of the page. It loads up fine that way. Any other way and it doesn't load up at all. Hope it works for you.

Greg,
That's how I've always done it too. It's on my "favorites" list that way, in case I want to access tips or other things from the home page before I go to PB.

kvst, I haven't been able to get into psychosocial babble since last weekend (it always stop loading at 9%). Will try Greg's tip, though! Thanks, Greg! (you are resourceful and helpful, as always!!!)

I've had the same problem, too. On one night lately that the page finally loaded, I wondered why so few people were posting messages. A peculiar thing I've noticed the past few days is that Internet Explorer loads the page better than Netscape. I'm hoping Dr. Bob can explain what has been going on.

Unfortunately, while I'll try it again, I had already tried Greg's method without success several times. When I was also having trouble accessing PB, I dicovered that I could get to it more easily through Dr. Bob's web site. However, once I get to PB, even this way, I still can't move on to PS-B. BTW I have a PC and I'm doing this through Netscape. ksvt

Sorry about the technical problems here recently. I was out of town. Everything should be working again?

Greg, dear ...Sheesh, this seems like an awful lot of hulla-balloo just to do something simple,
and for something that worked in the past, no less.Yes, I, too, had this quirk at times, and what I would do was to load in another copy of my
browser and do something else ... eventually the PB page would load and I'd go back to it.However, given the fact that patience is at a premium these days, and multi-tasking is something
one does *not* do lightly with such a flakey OS as WIN9x, you may want to try this.
There are certain transfer settings in WIN9x than can be "doctored" to enhance network performance.
One particular setting is TTL, meaning "Time-to-Live." TTL is a field in the IP header which indicates
how long a packet should be allowed to survive before it is discarded. TTL essentially determines the maximum
number of hops permitted. Windows default is 32, but with the Internet growing larger all the time, it is
worth changing it to the larger setting of 128.There are other settings you can change, too, which will also improve network performace, such as MTU,
PMTU (Auto Discovery & Black Hole Detect), RWIN (TC Receive Window), Sessions-Keep-Alive,
etc., etc., etc., blah, blah, blah. Now, in the past one had to mickey mouse with the Registry to do this stuff manually, but now (thank Zeus!)
there's software to do all this crap: TweakDUN, EasyMTU, Modem Booster, etc., etc., etc., blah, blah, blah,
all of which I have and can easily e-mail them to you with just a simple request.Personally, I recommend TweakDUN and EasyMTU.
On a more serious note: where have I been all your unnatural life?
I remain, faithfully yours,
kazoo
