Hello! From what I have researched and I've done a lot of it - you can not loose the weight gained on AD's unless you go off them and even then it is quite delayed. Dr. Atkins diet is inhibited by AD's and also Greer Childers, "Be a Loser" of weight also states that weight loss is very difficult while on AD's and thats the sad part. I have gained 30 lbs in a year and a half.

For once I have some optimistic input. I went off Efffexor and Remeron in July. I had gained about 25 pounds during the preceding year or so (actually, I don't know how long it took me to gain that weight--probably started 2 years ago). Since July I've lost 15 pounds without doing anything different, and in fact, without my normal amount of physical activity. (Normal activity curtailed by withdrawal symptoms and healing from broken ribs.) I am currently not taking any medications. I may have plateaued on the wt. loss, and think I'll now have to make an effort to lose the rest, but that first effortless 15 pounds was a great incentive!

alicefranklin, congrats on your weight loss! I just lost l2 lbs fairly effortlessly while still on Effexor-XR and Serzone, by just not drinking sugar sodas any more. Like you mention, I have probably plateaued and may even have to resort to exercise to lose more! ;) --Cindy W.

In my case I was loosing weight on Tianeptine which made me feel
reborn and happy just by looking in the mirror. Tianeptine can cause some anxiety, so you won't eat.
It looks like there is always a price to be paid.At the moment I gained all my weight back, and even more by going on different meds.

Anna P, what is Tianeptine? I'm not familiar with that. Thanks! Also, my rash is there really badly one night, and the next night, is not there (?).

Mush,
I want to share my own experiences with you, in the hope they might make you feel more optimistic. I have been on various AD meds over the past 10 years and have had not taken a break from them in this period. Every time I start a new one, I gain at least a stone in weight - high doses of tricyclics and low doses of remeron have been the worst culprits for me. My experience, having gained the weight, seems to differ from those I've heard from others, because I have always been able to lose it again whilst still on the medication. Sure, I work at it over the first 6 months, but I don't think I work much harder than many others (having read so many peoples experiences on this board). I diet and power-walk. The weight goes. It certainly takes me longer to lose it than it ever did before I started on these drugs, but I guess I'm very fortunate, because it still comes off.
I'm sure I cannot be alone in this. For five years I was on 300mg Clomipramine (tricyclic) and I managed to lose the weight even at that dose in about 6 months. I am currently on 45mg of Remeron + 75ms of Clomipramine. The stone I gained in the first month on Remeron took about 8 months to lose. I am now a stone lighter than I was when I started on the drug.
I wish you all the best and hope that you, an others, will have similar experiences to mine.
Caroline

Well, cripes! That does it. I just started on an Atkins-ish diet today. I still hope it helps, as I don't think there has been a day in my life when I didn't consume some sort of obvious carbohydrate. Certainly going a week without cereal will be a feat in itself. My sister's wedding is in two weeks and I feel the need to do SOMETHING. I guess logically it makes sense that it's harder to lose the weight while still on ADs. But that just sucks! Can't wait to see how skeletal Monica and Rachel are on this season's Friends. Take care. Laura

I never had trouble with gaining weight before I went on Paxil. I kept gaining on Celexa. I don't know if it's usual,my doctor says it's one with the fewer side-effects. After it stopped working I went back on prozac and lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks. It just stopped my craving for sweets. Best of luck.
