I have PTSD and DID. I have been on Zoloft for a long time and due to extreme SI's and severe depression I was put on Depakote yesterday. I am concerned about weight gain and also these episodes I have read about where the depression is worse. What's the real deal with this drug? Anyone know?

I also have DID. The first mood stabilizer I started on was Depakote. I don't think it did anything because I was switched to Lamictal. I started gaining weight on Depakote; I gained even more when I began taking Zyprexa - 30 lbs over the course of a few months. Of all the meds I've been on, I haven't had bad experiences, but I don't think they've really done me much good either. Be prepared for multiple trials of meds. My latest cocktail consists of lithium, Lamictal, Zyprexa, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Klonopin and Synthroid. I'd like to get off all of these, but I know that not taking anything was even worse.
If I had it to do over again, I would try Lamictal or Neurontin before I tried Depakote. I think Depakote was a waste of time, but it's apparently the first choice of docs as a mood stabilizer. Good luck.
