brand names translation

Posted by Sigolene on August 22, 2000, at 15:07:40

I would like to know if someone could give me a web adress where I can find a "translation" of the brand names of medications for each country. It would be easier then for me to follow and participate to discussions here.
Thanks.

James here....

Generally the generic name is the same in different countries. The Merck Index is the reference guide that lists the different brand
names by country. I have not found it on line, forever.

I'm not sure if the Merck Manual is what you're looking for, but here's the link to the Clinical Pharmacology page http://www.merck.com/pubs/mmanual/tables/306tb1c.htm

Index and Manual are different books. The Index is the da facto bible of chemistry and the Manual
is a dignostic tool for doc and others. I would be surprised if the Index was on line. It's a big
money maker so why give it away 4 free !

Scott,

Thanks! That's not just a "little thing". It's a great service to many on this board. I printed a copy off for easy referral, as it's so much easier than checking the PDR, which I often procrastinate doing. To your next edition please add Trileptal (oxcarbazepine), the new-to-the-USA anticonvulsant/mood stabilizer. It may be a keeper for me. By the time you update, ziprasidone (Zeldox) may be FDA approved, (but don't hold your breath).

Hope you're feeling better.

Blessings,

Chris A.
