Hi all: I'm just wondering if any of you know of any studies done on the effects of nicotine on panic disorder. Sometimes when I'm smoking I feel a panic attack coming on but I am not sure if its the smoking causing it or just amplifying th disorder. I know, the answer is to quit but I feel so bad right now that I don't think I could. Anyway, I'd appreciate any input from you panicky smokers out there. Thanks in advance---Tina

Tina when I used to smoke it used to make me feel panicky unless I smoked heavily. Then I got used to it. It definitely speeded my heart up too. But now, the thought of a smoke makes me anxious.

I can't remember what meds you're taking, but maybe your pdoc could add some wellbutrin. If you respond to SSRIs well, it seems to me that paxil or zoloft + wellbutrin can not just do a good job on depression+anxiety -- the wellbutrin may also help you kick the smoking habit.
Just a thought...
