I have been taking effexor for almost a week now. I have took paxil and celexa and after two years they both quit working . I really hope this helps. I have suffered with depression since childhood and only the last five years have I been diagnosed with a chemical inbalance and anxiety. I would appreciate any encouragement on effexor. Thank you,
Terry

> TerryTerry, I noticed more energy and a change in mood after a couple of weeks on Effexor-XR. It didn't really help with depression or OCD until after about a month, and the main benefits kicked in after about two months. Hang in there! You said you're taking it for anxiety. It makes me MORE anxious, but I can live with that I think. Hope it works for you!

Hi Terry,
Effexor is very fast-acting. The main trick is to get to a good working level without keeping yourself awake all night or getting the heebie-jeebies in your leg muscles.
Personally, I wouldn't want an extended-release version. I time my dosage so that I take it once a day (after breakfast). That way it is sufficiently worn off by nightfall that I can sleep well. If I take my dosage even as late as 2 or 3 in the afternoon, it will sometimes keep me awake late into the night.
BTW, my effective dose is 150mg/once a day, but I supplement with ritalin and pindolol, both of which potentiate Effexor.
Keep us posted!

I start taking 75mg of effexor tomorrow morning. I had a very bad nightmare last night. I hope its not caused from the effexor. I'm kind of afraid to go to sleep tonight. I go back to the doctor a week from today. I really hope this works. Terry

Terry, I wish I could have nightmares! My sleep is really disturbed right now, and I have always enjoyed dreaming (even nightmares) because my dreams are in color, I can change their outcomes (I have "lucid dreams" and if I don't like what's happening, I can change it while I'm dreaming), and it's better than TV. Unfortunately, I hardly ever remember my dreams, because my sleep is so interrupted now. Hang in there! Hope Effexor-XR works for you (it works great for me except for the interference with sleep).

Good news, Terry. I hope the improvement continues. Keep us posted--and take one day at a time, even if there are ups and downs.
