After reading the old board messages I realize the subject of weight gain and ssri's is pretty well covered. I went to my doctor and he has had me decrease my paxil to 10mg and I have began taking 150 mg of Wellbutrin. What I am wondering is if anyone out there has been on this combo long enough to give me some results on its effect on weight loss and sex dysfunction. By the way what a great site. I sure find it informative. You guys are terrific.

Because of continued mental resistance to being on meds (yeah, I know -- I'm working on it), I haven't been on Wellbutrin for awhile. However, I did have very good experience with it concerning both weight loss and sexual response.I lost about 40 lbs. in 3-4 months without any conscious effort on my part (I just stopped wanting to eat beyond the point of being satisfied.) I should note, though, that I started out at 310 -- my loss was probably faster than someone with less to lose could expect.
Also, after about a month on the Wellbutrin, I climaxed twice in one night with my husband. Not a big deal for some, but considering that I've had an orgasm with a partner only about 10 times in 15 years, it was a banner evening. (My husband was giddy for days!) I can only presume that the drug had something to do with it.
Unfortunately, both my husband and I have low sex drives, so there were no repeat performances before I went off the medication a few months later.
Hope this information is helpful.
Good luck!
Heidi

megs-- i lost about 5 pounds in 10 days when i started the wellbutrin, because like heidi, i was satisfied once i wasn't hungry anymore. it was nice, especially because i really hate gaining weight and when i get depressed i'll gain about 20 pounds in two weeks without changing either my activity level or my diet (which certainly doesn't help my depression any!). as for the sex drive, i found that mine went down dramatically. maybe it's true what they say about the connection between eating and sex. :)
hope this helps!
p.s. i'm 5'4 and about 125 lbs, and it's generally hard for me to lose weight.

i lost a great deal of weight on wellbutrin and i
was already thin as it was. now i am 115 @ 5'6".
i am off the wellbutrin and on effexor and low and
behold i can eat again. i am very angry at my doctors
for putting me on wellbutrin when they knew full well
that i had an eating disorder. i don't understand
why some shrinks are so stupid. sometimes it feels like
i could be doing a better job than they are.~kate

> HeidiHeidi, when you lost the weight on wellbutrin were you taking an ssri also. I am currently on 10mg of paxil and 150 of wellbutrin and wondering if the weight will come off. I have gained about 30lbs on the paxil. I have already noticed a difference with the sex thing. I love how you mentioned your giddy husband. It doesn't take much to please them does it?

Has anyone else gained weight on Wellbutrin? I took it (75 mg once a day) for sex dysfunction on Celexa (which I have been taking for a year and have had no weight gain)and although my appetite was gone and I barely ate, I gained five pounds in two weeks. I haven't been back on it since.

I'm sure you have already read that most changes in weight caused by Wellbutrin involve weight loss. These drugs are awfully strange beasts, though. There always seem to be exceptions to the rule.If you found Wellbutrin to help with the sexual side effects of the Celexa, perhaps a drug like Ritalin would help.

-------------------------------------------------I started off on Wellbutrin alone (final dose 400 mg/day), then augmented with Prozac. However, I wasn't on Prozac very long and I doubt it had much of an effect.
As for my husband, he was hilarious! He would come up to me at random times and just blurt out "TWO!!", giggle hysterically for a few seconds, and go away. He even sent me e-mails that way.
Good luck with the weight loss and take care.
Heidi
