Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences in using either of these drugs for insomnia? I have been using Temazapam for years and I feel as if I am building a tolerance to it. It takes about 3 hours after I take it to get to sleep? Is Klonopin better?

James here...How about a sedating AD for sleep? For me these give much better sleep and I don't get tolerance (Yes,Virginia, years+benzo=tollerence! It's no great leap)
Suffice to say I've taken all the benzos for sleep
and they all give me drugged sleep while the sedating AD's give me normal sleep.j

James is right, the benzodiazepines all cause tolerance -- and cross tolerance, so one will not likely be better than another you've developed tolerance to.
Also, Klonopin has a much longer half life (19-60 hrs) compared to Temazepam (3-25 hrs) so that would likely leave you feeling sluggish the next day, and that would likely disrupt your sleep cycles more. A 'better' alternater benzo would be triazolam (1.5-5 hrs). But besides the cross tolerance issue, triazolam (Halcion) also can cause strange uninhibited behavior in some people.
An antidepressant would be better. But still not quite normal sleep, as ADs interfere with REM sleep. But still worth considering.
What about low dose melatonin? (0.3 mg)
What about eating some carbohydrates a while before bedtime? This will increase serotonin levels and should make you sleepy.
If you discontinue the benzo (gradually!!!), you will have to deal with some rebound insomnia though.
If you stay with the temazepam, you might try taking it earlier...
This is the end of the thread.
