I'm getting into some unknown territory here. I just took my first pill (100mg) about an hour ago. Anyone have any experience to share, or know anything about how this drug actually works? (I've heard two not-necessarily-conflicting explations.)

Hi Elizabeth,
I dont know much about Provigil but apparently it works somewhat by stimulating Alpa1 adrenergic receptors. I know that part of the net effect is downregulation of GABA A and increased levels of L-glutamate. It's action on dopamine is very weak and dose dependant. I have been thinking of trying this new med for my ADD for awhile now. Let me know if it helps with concentration...Sorry I couldnt give you much info...you probably knew all this already.Good luck!

I heard that either it is not noradrenergic, or it is but it is selective as to the location where it acts (which would be pretty damned cool, though I don't know how it would come about). Also heard that it may act on GABA and/or glutamate in the reticular activating system. It's not supposed to cause jitters or increased anxiety as amphetamine can. I didn't notice *any* effect, but the 100mg I took is not much at all. (I talked to my doctor on the phone and he said 200 tomorrow would be fine. My blood pressure, incidentally, was unaffected, at 108/65 (I'm taking an MAOI as well).)

it supposedly has a very wide spectrum of action, affecting everything from gaba and noradrenaline to orexins and histamine.
i tried it a while back, it did do some good but i went off of it for some reason i can`t remember.
