HOW DO I STOP POSTING RE NEW THREADS

Posted by Former Questioner on July 21, 1999, at 23:24:52

This site has been quite helpful, and I appreciate it, but I once asked to be notified by email when a posting was made to a specific thread. I now have the answers I needed and need to know how to "cut off" this feature since it is cluttering up my email. Please advise me and keep up the great work. Former Questioner

Sorry, but there isn't a way (at least right now) to stop those notifications.

It should be easy just to delete them. Or, if you want to get fancy, to get your email program automatically to "filter" them into the trash.

Bob

PS: If you're technically inclined, the issue with turning off the notifications is that the site would need to confirm that it's the author of the post who's doing it, and there's no way for it to do that (at least right now).

Suggestion for FQ and Dr. Bob

As a die-hard computer geek, I was intrigued by this question, so I came up with a suggestion:

What would happen if Former Questioner came back into this thread, posted another message, and DIDN'T check the "notify you" box? Then that name and address (FQ's) would go into the computer as a "non-notify" for this thread.

Try it and see if it works!

That's creative :-) but I don't think it would do it. The site checks each previous post in the thread and notifies that poster if he or she asked for it.

So actually you could post twice to a thread, ask to be notified each time, and then get *two* notifications after each follow-up. Hmm, that's not so good...
