Ugh. I must vent. I must confess I feel like bursting
into tears right now. For the last 10 months I've
experimented with trying to find a drug that dosen't have
the sexual side effects. I'm totally in love with my
boyfriend of the last year, and sex has always been very
important to me. I tried Wellbutrin, Serzone, and Celexa.
The first two didn't work, and the celexa's side effects
were intolerable, and it still effected my sex drive.
I feel so defeated. I've fallen back into a depression
with all this experimentation, and now I crave just to
feel mentally stable again. Even though I know I'll feel
better once I take my little green and white pill, the thought
also makes me want to cry at the thought of, once again,
being numb "down there".

Check out my post on Pindolol, Buspar, Lithium, Thyroid...just a few posts before this one. Serzone+Pindolol may work where serzone alone didn't (I saw a study that had 90% success rate with this). Same with Wellbutrin, according to a few doctor reports. Buspar can make it possible to take sub-standard doses of Prozac or whatever. Sometimes the problem is too many choices. On the other hand, it's nice there are so many. You aren't anywhere near exhausting other approaches. Best wishes for your depression and a delightful love life. JohnL

Ruth,
I'm sure knowing you're not alone doesn't make you feel any better, but you sure aren't alone! I also know how "silly" you feel complaining to your doctor about a *little* thing like no sex life when you're feeling better otherwise. (I personally believe that every dispenser of psychopharms should have their Seratonin mechanically drained somehow for a week or so. Maybe then they could identify better with us!)
One of your responders spoke highly of adding BuSpar with your Prozac. Give it a try!!! Run, don't walk!!! If you're fortunate to have Prozac working for you in some respects, try tweaking it somehow to get the results you want.
I wanted to ask you if you'd tried the TCA's. When I took Imiprimine, I had some sucky side effects, but loss of libido and sexual response weren't among them. The imiprimine may have even enhanced my response! Something to think about if all else fails.
Good luck,
Judy

> Thanks, all of you, for your responses. I found
them very heartening and encouraging. I've made an
appt. with a good pharmacologist, and I'm going to
tell her about all three of these suggestions.
Thanks again--for the suggestions, and the caring
support--Ruth
