Anybody got a "thing" for butter tarts?
I bet they are 2000 calories in each one. There is nothing at all redeeming about them, except perhaps the nutrients in the few raisins therein. (I prefer the raisin ones, for some reason, although they come plain, or with pecans.)
I was at the farmer's market this morning. I shouldn't have gone while hungry. And I shouldn't have found those butter tarts. I know them by sight. I know "the ones". There is a magic butter tart maker in the area. I know the magic ones by sight.
I think I can feel my hips expanding already.
And I only had two.
So far.
Damn.;-)

I don't know what a butter tart is. But lately I've made a discovery that's equal parts delightful and disturbing: S'mores Pop Tarts. Trying to limit to one per day.

> I don't know what a butter tart is.
Well, I guess it's a regional thing.
Here's a fairly typical recipe for the filling:
http://lesleycooks.tripod.com/desserts/buttertartfilling.htmThe problem is, there are butter tarts, and there are magic butter tarts. I don't quite know what the difference is. I made Martha Stewart's butter tarts once, and they weren't magic. Hmmmppfff.
I suspect that the *real* butter tart recipe is a closely guarded secret, and fake ones are circulated to placate the masses. I have not yet found a copy of the *real* magic butter tart recipe.
These magic ones are deep. Maybe an inch. With a pool of just-on-the-verge-of-runny-but-not-quite......oh-there-it-goes gooey goodness.
Hard to describe, but now I need to have another one.
Yes, I have lots of different teas to choose from, or coffee. Too bad y'all can't just swing on by.

Larry,
That was no fair! You should have put *trigger* on that! I must have gained 5 pounds just lusting after those tarts after reading your description, and I still don't exactly know what they are! LOL
I'll take two with a cup of Hazelnut coffee please!

I thought you were coming over. <pout>
These tarts can't be left long, as the sugar crystallizes and toughens up. They're perishable.
I had to have two for breakfast.
Now there's only one left.
Any bets on how long it lasts?

> Are they sealed in plastic???Oh I could send them, I suppose. But would they make it? Not a chance. I doubt I could even hand deliver them to you. Delicate little things. Subject to tipping, leaks, the pastry failing.
I guess you'll have to make do with a vicarious yum thing.
Maybe being a Canuck is a wonderful thing all in itself. I honestly didn't know they were of Canadian origin. They're everywhere, and I just figured they were everywhere everywhere, ya know?
Like flavoured potato chips (crisps). That is a Canadian thing, going back to the 60s. I know that's worldwide now, but we started it.
I can't stop thinking about that last butter tart, being all lonely and everything, in its little clear tray. Poor thing.

What is on the top of the tart?
It looks like pepperoni on my machine.

Sort of a light crust. But so delicate a crust, that the slightest touch breaks it.
The filling is sugar, butter, and beaten egg.
The surface is almost like a meringue.
