Hello Ms Lott,

I, too, wanted to say thank you for all your contributions; I’ve been reading them with enormous interest. I loved your book and found it really useful, and it’s been wonderful having you here.

Tamar

I hope you write another!

Wanted to add my thanks both for "In Session" and for chatting with us here. I guess I have a final question -- do you think chat rooms such as Babble will/are changing the balance of power in the therapy room? It seems that it is easier to find information or share experiences now than it was as little as 5 years ago.

I think everyone should have a support group like this. :)
Best wishes,
Daisy

I think chat rooms, bulletin boards, client support groups, are incredibly important. It helps so much to have someone else to run by whatever happens in that little room. And even beyond chat rooms and bulletin boards, clients need to get involved with professional boards, and with legislative bodies that regulate psychotherapy. Only when consumers make their needs and demands heard will there be real systemic change. But I can't imagine with the support that you offer one another here, that any of you could really go on in a really bad therapy for too long. I've really enjoyed my visit here, and I may well eavesdrop or pipe up from time to time.

I'm sorry I had to miss most of your time here.

Although my vacation was quite pleasant as well.

Thanks for the support. :-) And of course for visiting!

Regulation is certainly important. Hmm, but so is education, and if our next party is going to coincide with the next annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association:

http://psych.org/edu/ann_mtgs/am/06

then that might be an opportunity to do some educating... For example, on the topic of advice for future therapists:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/psycho/20050801/msgs/537276.html

Would something like that be of interest to anyone? An educational session would probably be scheduled during the week as opposed to the weekend... And the submission deadline is September 6...

I've been on vacation (with my copy of "In Session" - which I didn't "need" to use!), but I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated your thoughtful responses to our questions. I hope that you will stop in from time to time, your insight is very helpful!

We'll all be looking forward to your next book on terminations... (I can wish, can't I?)

I don't know if I can be there in person, but I'd be keen to contribute to any preliminary work!

Sounds like a poster session and presentation?

Perhaps those who cannot attend could contribute to a poster session, and those who can could present?

Since Kali Munro's in Toronto, I was thinking about including her. But then the focus would be online groups rather than advice for therapists. How about that? A "workshop" like this?

> Online Peer Support Groups -- and Support Group Members
>
> The Internet empowers patients by connecting them not only to information, but also to each other. This workshop introduces participants to two specific online peer support groups, one small and private, the other large and public. The moderators of the groups explain how the groups function, including what the goals of the groups are, how the group members interact, what topics are discussed, how the moderators moderate, and what the pros and cons of the groups are. The focus of the session, however, is small group discussion with group members about their experiences with this type of resource. In this workshop, in other words, patients are empowered to teach doctors. All participants regroup for concluding questions and answers.

And what if she's not available and it were just us?

If people who couldn't be there wanted to contribute something in writing, maybe we could work that in somehow?

I'll make that date on my calendar. It may conflict with a trade show but I think it may work out.

Does this mean we'll be the topic of a workshop and we have to present something?

If anyone wanted to present something to the group as a whole, that would be great, but I was thinking there might be more interaction if after I gave a little introduction we split up into small groups, and there I think you could just answer questions...

Thanks to everyone who's volunteered to help with this!

I know this is past the submission deadline, and I don't know if I could be there. Or for that matter that I wouldn't hide under the table while having a major social anxiety attack, but I could write something and pass it to somebody to read.

In other words if you submitted the presentation and it is accepted, I will try to participate in whatever way I can.

Hi people

I was just curious about this presentation thing. Would this be like a "members only" type of thing? Or can people come and watch?

I don't know anything about psychology or therapy or anything like that, so I wouldn't be able to contribute any good ideas...plus it would be absolutely terrifying to interact with strangers in a small group.

If I can't come and just watch, can someone fill me in on the details?

not sure how it works... but if you aren't presenting there might be an attendance fee.

I'm afraid I don't at all understand what you're talking about.

Could you explain it in full sentences maybe?

I hope to be at the second Babble party, if I manage to make a financial recovery.

OK, she's on board, too, so we would be the moderators, and so far for the small groups we have:

AuntieMel
Annierose
ClearSkies
Poet maybe

Before the topic was set, daisym, orchid, and Tamar volunteered, I don't know if they're still interested. I'm supposed to hear back from the Scientific Program Committee by the end of the month...
