Hey,
I am new here, but I was wondering how how you were doing? I have had some OCD problems, but thankfully overcame them. The worst one was actually similar to yours. I constantly (I mean all the time) felt like I had a hair in my throat, which would cause me to salivate profusely. The need to spit was horrible and I ended up spitting on my sleeve while I was in public to hide it. I finally figured out it was a panic reaction, thinking about it made it worse, and so instead of meds, I have figured out that breathing exercises and meditation have knocked it out. Things that I can utilize in public without feeling like I am attracting attention work wonders. Maybe you should look into some of the breathing techniques people with panic disorders use. Good luck to you and if I have any more ideas, I will let you know!!

you say you have suffered from OCD symptoms for over 15 years. Might i ask what some of your other symptoms were? you see my daughter has experienced many different OCD symptoms since she was 7 yrs. old. Eye blinking, sniffing, shoulder shrugs and pursing of the lips among many others. she has managed to outgrow (overcome) them all, except the eye-blinking, but it wasn't until we had her correctly diagnosed that she improved. it wasn't OCD at all...she has a mild form of Tourette's syndrome....

Hello, I think I can be of asistance to your problem. I sure could use the money as I am really in a tight fix. I have had ocd since childhood. To get rid of your salivating problem you need to do this. Put a religious question in your head that can't be answered. Such as, if God knows everything in the future, then I have no control over my life. This will get your mind fixed on this problem. Then after a few days, just say that whatever is is going to be. I bet this relieves you of your symptons. Anymore help, you can email me at [email protected]
good luck

hi there,

i don't know anything about OCD, but a friend of mine had really bad salivation from meds. this might help you- there is a drug, i believe it is only in canada but you can get it at www.pharmacy.ca and it basically dries you out. it causes a dry mouth side effect. (but actually so do antidepressants), anyway it might be worth looking into, as i said i am not familiar with the problem but if it is a salivation problem this might prevent you from salivating too much, it is called 'Avert'
good luck

> I don't know what else to do other than offer cash to anyone who can think of a way to solve this OCD symptom without medication. I tried over 20 different medications spanning 15 years and have also been in bed tired from medication for 15 years and am never taking medication ever again.
>
> Whenever I think about my mouth, I salivate. This is caused by my OCD (my OCD makes me keep thinking about salivation...which in turn, makes me salivate). The salivation prevents me from doing things like talking, singing, etc. And it also causes damage to my mouth because when I swallow, my tongue rubs against my gums and makes them bleed.
>
> I have had this symptom for 2 years and have been to OCD specialists with no idea how to treat this behaviorally. (The medication makes it somewhat tolerable but that's it.) I have fought and won over every other OCD symptom you can think of, but no one has any idea how to cure this one. The hard part in curing this symptom is that I can't just simply stop doing it (which usually cures other OCD symptoms).

> For Godssakes help me from this Hell. If you can help I will give you all the money I possibly can and I'm sure you could write a book about it too, as well as treat any other OCD symptom imaginable.

First off, I second KindGirl's beautiful sentiment. I do believe quite strongly in the efficacy of prayer.

I'd like to suggest Exposure and Response Prevention. It is an extremely well-tested and effective strategy for OCD, and is recommended as a primary treatment by the APA (both of them, I think) and the National Institute of Mental Health.

Two excellent books on this are "Brain Lock" by Jeffery Schwarz, and "Stop Obsessing!" by Edna Foa. You can also contact the American Association for Behavior Therapy (AABT) for referrals.

My best. I promise you that you can significantly improve. OCD is a nightmare, I know from personal experience. Fortunately, it is immensely treatable.

Hey,
Sorry you're having such a hard time. i'm going to try to keep this brief due to repetitive stress injuries.

there are 2 great things to try. Fish oil (i like carlson's lemon-flavored, which is just as high quality as omegabrite and cheaper), probably around 5 grams (5,000 mg) a day. you can get a great price at iherb.com. See if lower amounts work first, due to cost. here is a web site about this: http://www.omega3.20megsfree.com/about.html

2nd thing is morphine. i read a promising article about taking a small dose 1 or 2 times a week, and a post elsewhere on psychobabble. maybe find a doctor who will prescribe it. our brain has natural morphine, which you may be deficient in or something. sounds very promising. (i think the fda is testing a similar drug called tramadol for ocd.) here is the psychobabble post:

New treatment to ocd and social phobia:
There are several studies that indicate that morphine provides relief from ocd taken orally only once a week! Studies indicate that it acts on the caudate nucleus which the area of the brain that is implicated with ocd.

Check out this info.

Exciting evidence recently published in the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry suggested morphine as an efficacious drug that showed dramatic effects in cases in which SSRI's, behavior therapy, and psychosurgery failed (Warnecke 1997). The author referenced several imaging studies showing a concentration of opioid receptors in the caudate nucleus, an aforementioned important region in the pathogenesis of OCD (Murin et al. 1980; Woo et al. 1985). Notably, none of the patients reported a euphoric response after each dose of morphine, which suggests that the mu subclass of opioid receptors may not be involved and the risk of addiction should be very low. Oral doses of morphine were given with doses ranging from 20 to 40 mg. Surprisingly, therapeutic effects lasted for at least 5 days following a single dose.

Does anyone have any experience with morphine for ocd?
I can see why this can be true, b/c I recently recieved morphine when I had my wisdom teeth taken out. For several days I had complete relief from my ocd and social phobia.

Good luck to you! i hope you find relief.

take care.

Some Solutions

Hi there
i am sorry for your case, i used to have severe ocd, so i can understand exactly what you mean...

some solutions:
Drink water so much.

There are medications who's size effects is to dry out your mouth, consider one of these.

STOP OVER masturbation at all, Overmasturbation affects the brain transmitters seratonin and dopamine and is a main cause of ocd inspite of what many liar or misleaded doctors say, it also
decrease your soul quality.

Keep a warrior's spirit, if you will die, die as a warrior, not as a victim.
afterall if even the ocd will never cease, you must have the honor of fighting till the last moment.

keep positive attitude and be optimistic.

don't try to force negative thoughts away, each action has a reaction equal in magnitude and opposite in direction, u c? this is a law of physics, it also is a law of the metaphysics of thoughts, just ignore about the thougt and try to keep neutral emotions.

Get busy.

am now researching natural ways of ocd curing, if i got to something that really works, i'll email you.

Wishes of an ocd life or a heroic death.

William,
I would suggest topamax, and neurontin, if you have not tried them, they may help somewhat. As well, check into psychobable alternative medicine and see if anyone can help you there with holistic remedies. I wonder what area you are in, because it would help you to consult with a herbalist, or a chinese herbalist. there are natural things you can do as well.
CBT may not work but GET YOURSELF into therapy, somewhere with someone kind so you have a place to be that you feel supported. the most important thing is that you do not completely isolate.
I am so sorry you are having to suffer with this. Search in your area for chinese medicine clinics, and see if you can find a treatment center nationally for OCD? is there anything like that? if so find out if you can go.
do not give up.
love
april

There is no cure for OCD. I can tell you that the book "Brain Lock" has done wonders for me. I really encourage you to read it. It gives a detailed program on how to control and overcome your OCD. Mine was miserable, but it's getting better. None of the drugs ever worked for me, but this has. Talk to your therapist about it.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon

The first time anyone refers to a book without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:
