Yep Sebastion, 4me too.
I was going through med paperwork today and saw I'd tried it once and had written something like 'really bad' on it on the paper.

I've now tried abilify on 4 trials. It had good things and bad. The energy is great, just not all the time. Lack of appatite great. Panic all day, bad. Rapid thoughts. It did make me more wanting to be around people. Thats why I tried it again, for a whole month. I still take 5 mg a day and back on 10mg zyprexa. Seeing how it goes I may not always take 10mg zyprexa a day, not sure I need quite that much.

I liked it a lot better during the middle of the trial month. the first week was hell going through withdraw from zyprexa and starting abilify. After that it had a real good effect for about 2 weeks then anxiety and panic and paranoia, psychotic thoughts. the other thing that happened I started drinking and smoking more to calm down. I've cut down on that, back up on zyprexa.

Yes I've tried Risperdal, that was noot good either. I holucinated, was stiff as a board. Risperdal was one of the worst APs I ever took. Geodon was not a whole lot better than risperdal. I just didn't get stiff like a board instead I got blury vision, which has been going away since starting the abilify and stoping geodon. Have not tried seroquel, but it does not look like it has any advantage over zyprexa. And I know how good zyprexa is. Now I just need to cure the diabetes.

Hey, I've talked badly about zyprexa. But you know, as I look back at my history it was actually a pretty good drug. I hate to admit it, but I kind of miss it. I had lots of problems with prozac+zyprexa...butterflies in the stomach upon waking that would go away with coffee and a cig, a feeling of abandonment dread upon waking that would go away with coffee and a cig, kind of emotionally numb like ssris do, not motivated or interested in things unless I had to do them, socially withdrawn. BUT, and this is a big but, I wasn't depressed and had no anxiety and slept good, ate good, had good sex drive and ability, watched TV, listened to talk radio, enjoyed music a little bit. Right now, months after stopping prozac and 1 month after stopping zyprexa, the butterflies abandonment dread stuff at waking is gone, but I'm very depressed, filled with anxiety, don't eat well, sleep poorly, never watch TV, never listen to the radio or music, am even more socially withdrawn than ever, and sex drive is actually worse off meds.
Sometimes when I tried different things I got adverse reactions such as high anxiety or panic attacks. Lexapro did it. Marijuana did it. Various supplements or herbs did it. I could ALWAYS count on zyprexa to totally block it within 2 hours. It saved me many times.
Sorry abilify went badly. I can relate. You kind of reminded me though, that even with the metabolic and sugar risks of zyprexa, it is a darn good drug. I can't believe I miss it, after all the bad things I've said about antipsychotics.

Still taking 5mg Abilify, half at breakfast and half at lunch. Also taking 10mg zyprexa, but think I will not take the whole dose all the time, as it builds up the effect is not as good.
The Abilify at 5mg seems to help too. Gives me energy, controls my appatite, and my blood sugar is not going up very much, even though I take 10mg. Wonder does abilify lower blood sugar?

I was wrong, Abilify does not lower blood sugar. Been taking 10mg zyprexa for a week or two, and now and my blood sugar is starting to go up agian.
So now I back to taking 5-10mg instead of 10 all the time.

Hey threadees ...
Am I correct - Abilify sucks in the beginning but not in the end?
Am I correct - Abilify is best taken or works best taken alongside an antipsychotic?
Am I correct - This is a bipolar regimen?
Am I correct - Maybe subject line of thread could now be 'Zyprexa and Abilify Okay' at this point?
Am I correct - I am FOS & this is not a test?
After reading all posts, I'm confused. Butt, I'm interested in 'the final analysis'. I wonder Abilify is something I may need in my med cab (actually lockbox!) in future and getting the feeling it's a med you need to ride out until positive results surface. And, is that correct?
I hate waiting. My P told me this 2day and is correct. I pray I grow 2b a more patient person with more self-discipline.
I always use the excuse 'I live alone and have no one to do the ADLs should I be incapacitated'.
Can someone please explain? Seriously, I've been very ill and I really want to 'get' this thread.

Five fires abilify is atypical antipsychotic. You don't need that for bipolar unless you are psychotic are you?Love Phillipa

Right. I'm getting from what you say, Abilify is one of quite a few, this one an anti-psychotic, which seems to help in many other areas than specified by its indicated usage.
I'm still curious tho' about how long it might take to reveal improvement in one's condition.
And, this is because, 'tada!', I took it last year and didn't even remember until was going through little stack of scrips other day.
I stayed on it probably only a few days and then did one of my 'run out the waiting room screaming skits', a little gift for your imagination pleasure; discontinuing it promptly.
I used to say (like, I think, yesterday) 'anything that causes me to feel this bad can't ever cause me to feel good', but I'm currently trying to adjust this way of thinking and maybe practice and learn (at my age?) patience can pay off.

Hey

>
> Am I correct - Abilify is best taken or works best taken alongside an antipsychotic?Yes because it makes me anxious and jittery. Taken with my zyprexa the side-effects are more tollerable. Without it, abillify does not work well.

Abilify is FOS.>

Tks S, for the insight.
You've got a good sense of humor and 'you get' my attempt at one!
Sounds like Abilify should be used very carefully as to its 'inability' to balance the scales i.e. too little, too much, can't stand alone, works well and then doesn't; a 'high maintenance(?)' medication.

Yes I'm crazy. I crashed hard. Yesterday I didn't take any of my meds, except for 200mg wellbutrin sr in the morning. Felt great untill last nights sleep. No meds = insecure anxiety, no energy, drinking more.

Wow!!!
This Abilify really sucks. It makes me very sleepy along with the lamictal. No energy, strength or desire to do anything. I finally took a ritalin and even though it made me feel better, it kind of made me a bit depressed. Weird!!
