Honestly, there are thousands of brain proteins that suspected targets of endogenous bodily chemicals and synthetic drugs that no one has discovered yet. Wanna bet at least a few are involved in the pathology of mood disorders? Who knows, maybe that 'inactive' isomer interacts with one of those unknown systems to bring about an anti-depressant effect. Remember, neuropsychopharmacology is not yet an exact science in terms of application of drugs, so the best way to know if a drug works or not is through your individual evaluation of it.

Good luck Celexers and Lexers!

> Dear All,
> It's the first day of 30mgs Celexa, but my question concerns lexapro. I know some of you have written in the past about lexapro poop-out when it just stops working as well, and I'd like to hear your stories again because it wasn't working as well at the end there. At least, I think it wasn't--I've had a bad few days. Saturday one of my dogs bit my daughter in the cheek, so we are probably going to have to find him a new home. My husband went ballistic, scruffed him and tossed him into his crate rather roughly, which was extremely upsetting--but that IS our daughter. We cried all day Sunday. Yesterday I received a thanks but no thanks on an abstract I sent out for a publication--and although I don't mention it too often, I am concerned about my career and getting a tenure-track job with a better salary because we often don't have much money at the end of the month. With my teaching load and with mostly freshman students, it's hard to carve out the time or conserve the energy to work on my scholarship. And it's midterm, and we're going to the in-laws for the weekend (it's fall break, or should I say fall-behind break?).
>
> Vent, vent, vent. Is it any wonder the lex has pooped out? I'M pooped out! Seriously, I Do still want to hear your stories of lexapro poop out--and any you might have about switching back to celexa.

I used to post a lot here last year when I started lexapro. You can search my name and there is probably a 1000 posts of mine. I post on other boards and have even made a website. Its about me and has links about everything you ever wanted to know about depression and anxiety. I dont get paid or anything like that. Its all free and is just good info for new people that post on boards that I post at. Not sure but I believe I have been on lexapro for about 17 months. I tried 2 other meds and lets just say that didnt work to well. In a lot of ways lexapro was my last shot. Yea I was very desperate and very close to doing something. I was suffering depression that I will describe as HELL!!! The worst thing I have ever felt in my life. I also had panic disorder and spent many nights in the ER. I had all the symptoms!!!! Poop out has been discussed on this board and many others. Does it really exist once you find a med that works? I dunno!!! My own experience is this. I have thought maybe 3 or 4 times my med was not working anymore. Each time I was wrong and it was just something that was going on in my life. Anytime you get the flu or whatever you will instantly think about your med, even though you know you have the flu. The latest thing for me was in January when my dad got sick. Well I happened to be there at the exact time the dr. came in and gave him 6 weeks to live. He died in March and the dr. was pretty close on the 6 weeks. During the 6 weeks I held up pretty well. At the funeral I held up pretty well. I would say a couple of weeks afterwards it just hit me and I got pretty depressed. Blah, I started thinking about my med and totally relapsing. After a week or so I got better and was ok. Sometimes when you have a bad day or even week it doesnt hit you until later. I have found this to be the case with me. Everyone breathing gets depressed at times. Everyone breathing has anxiety at times. Its going to happen even if your med is working!!!! As for me I have been on the same dose for more than a year. I have things in my life that depress me today. My wife is an alcoholic, my dads b-day was oct. 29th. After a life long fear of the dentist I have been there over 20 times since may. Root canals, fillings, extractions, crowns and cosmetic stuff. I figure the 1st of the year it will all be done. I guess I will go for now!!! TAKE CARE!!!

Wayne,

I have been on Lexapro, currently at 30mgs, for 5 months now. Like you, I also was extremely tired especially the first couple of weeks, when I was practically bedridden and the fatigueness lasted at least 6 weeks. However, the fatigueness eventually got less and less.

I have two questions for you.

1. Do you still have your website? and if so, may I have the website address?

2. What dosage are you on currently and are you still taking the Lex at 4PM, because recently, I am beginning to feel my depression creeping back around 3PM to 9PM. I also take 100mg Trazodone at bedtime to help with the Lex induced insomnia. My unipolar depression is mostly caused by chronic low back pain incurred nearly 20 years ago in a traffic accident, for which I take 10 tabs daily of 30mg Tylenol/Codeine. I have been on AD's for 13 years.

Thanks in advance,
FST

Hi, I take 7.5mg of lexapro and have been there like I said for over a year. After my 1st 2 meds I decided to do my own dosing. I had tried going up in dose many times but I always felt worse. I changed mt dose many times until I settled in at 7.5mg. I DONT RECOMMEND ANYONE CHANGING THEIR DOSE ON THEIR OWN!!!!!!! Also remember I am very sensitive to meds. Yep I still take my med at 4pm. The main reason I started doing that, was because when I took it in the morning it made me tired and at night I had insomnia. Changing times didnt really help with either one at the time. The reason I take it at this time now is because I am not an early riser lol. I have had insomnia since I was a kid. I still dont sleep great but I sleep better than I have my whole life. Here is the link you requested. I hope it is ok with Dr. Bob!!! It has a lot to do with my recovery with lexapro and I dont sell anything. Its just thoughts and info. TAKE CARE!!

In reply to Anyone Combining Lexapro and Lamictal?, posted by Ann1983 on September 12, 2004, at 18:30:26

I just added Lamictal to the Topamax I have been taking for over a year. My depression is pretty severe and my doctor wants me to add Lexapro. I am terrified. The last time I was on an SSRI I was hypomanic and I am so afraid to go back to that. However, I am also afraid of of staying in this depression because it's starting to get a bit dangerous. My doctor seems to think that my hypomania was triggered by the fact that I had to take prednisone for an allergic reaction when I was on Zoloft before and not because of Zoloft. I am so afraid to be awake all night and crazy again. I'm not sure if I should risk it. I tried Wellbutrin but it did nothing for me at all. I don't know. Any suggestions?

> Hi All,
> I am new to this message board. I have been on meds for 1 1/2 years. Tried many combos. Currently taking 10 mg Lexapro in AM and 200 mg Lamictal in evening. Combined with 1 mg Xanax XR. I suffer from GAD, panic attacks and anxiety. My symptons are shortness of breath and sometimes dizzyness or get the feeling like I have a head cold with that light-headedness. Anyway, I am wondering if I should continue taking meds forever or what. I hear withdrawl is terrible. I recently tried to stop Lexapro and became very depressed. That was not one of my original symptoms. Just finished reading the book Your Drug May Be Your Problem by Peter R. Breggin, MD and David Cohen, PhD. Now I am really confused. The book is all about how meds are prescribed freely without the real understanding of the long-term affects. Also, that doctors give everyone a "disease" name like Bi-Polar, etc. And that no one needs meds. I don't think the book is all true, but it does make me question some things. If anyone has similar meds and symptons as I do, please, reply to me. I really don't know what to do next....

You were just going back out on the road again I believe. Maybe your break from work will help you get energized. I hope weaning down the lex helps also. my name is lil' jim, but you can call me jim. (("Hi, Jim!"))
and i am a lexapro user.
i have used lexapro for 2 years and a few months (but who's counting?)

i have posted to the very long lex thread to honor what for me was an invaluable resource in dealing with lexapro and its challenges ... ... this thread begins june 11, 2001 a few months before lexapro became available ... ... it tells the harrowing tales of babble's earliest lexapro users and their experiences and their camaraderie ...

i read the entire thread around late march of 2002 while i was going through the worst of my adaptation side effects ... it took me a week to read ... then i began posting to the tread that april ... everyday for a several months there ... ... those parts of the lex thread document much of my feelings and experience with lexapro adaptation and fellow lex friends ... ... the thread itself serves as huge reservoir of support and strength for me ... ... i met a lot of nice people here too ... i miss them ...

the thread has all manner of useful and not-so-useful information in the scatter shot mosaic of hundreds of personal narratives ... ...

i take ten milligrams of lexapro every morning ... with my coffee ...

glad to hear that lex is doing you well. i reached a point where i was too foggy and she (T) wouldn't adjust it so i did it with out her and then she desided she wanted to get rid of me. and then i think she had a change of heart, but once i cry, which is rare, i am done.

I have taken Prozac for over 7 years, then tried Nardil for over 4 months and then switched to Lexapro. I have been taken Lexapro almost a year now, along with Trazodone and Wellbutrin. This combo worked just as well as Prozac did.

I had taken Prozac or Zoloft with Desipramine, Remeron and Wellbutrin for the longest time with excellent relief of unipolar depression.

Nardil also provided excellent relief, but I was unable to get any quality sleep even while taking Seroquel, Remeron or Trazodone with it.

Hope this helps.

this is still the longest and most complete babble thread of Lexapro's story.
i recommend it to every new Lexapro user.
every SE and other adaptation experience got/is discussed here.
it begins just before Lexapro was introduced in the U.S.
i believe that every new user question has been asked and replied to here, except for questions about combos with even newer drugs.

i have taken 10 milligrams of lex these past two years now.

i just got off it. it made me tired all day long, and i took it at bedtime. it wasn't working with my wellbutrin. so i'm off and feeling normal again. it did help me feel leveled off anxiety wise. but i was not alert during the day and this was not acceptable. that was even at 5mg. i'm glad to be off, but i wouldn't not recommend it to someone else. my pdoc says he recommends it for people who are also having trouble with sleep because it can have that effect on people. it just effected my whole day.
