yes, i started it 2 weeks ago had to have the pharmacy special order it and they did. I have noticed any side effects except some foods taste abit strange.

I made the switch a couple of weeks ago and the only difference for the better for me is it seems a little smoother than the SR because of its release system.

Not sure but I got it for the same reason - after 6 months on Lexapro my aniexty was not controlled anymore and I gained a ton of weight.
Guess we have to wait and see.

I've noticed a definate difference at about the 6 and 10 hour mark after dosing, those being increased attention and increased sedation, respectively.

I only take 150mg of XL per day and with the SR version I felt it wear off about 7-8 hours after taking, also sometimes a scratchy throat like I was coming down with a sore throat but wasn't. I spoke with Glaxo and they said the SR was supposed to be a twice a day dosing, even though many docs were giving patients 150mg tablets to take once daily because at that time had no choice, but now with XL version it's not an issue.

I seem to be one of those people that gets all the side effects YMMV

Like the once a day aspect.
Absorbtion into my system does seem smoother
I have extreme underlying physical fatigue that seems only moderately affected. Actually I think its my improved sense of motivation that helps me to tolerate my fatigue and feel less depressed about it. (although toleration of underlying condition doesnt seem a long term solution)
10 hrs later I feel wiped out and experience more than maoderate anxiety and flu like symptoms, sore throat, malaise
Its still up in the air as to whether Im BP and if you ask me, cycles are breaking through.
Overall, motivation is increased and clairity of thinking is definately increased.
Glad to hear how others are doing

If SR is 'sustained release' and XL is a 'once-a-day' pill, what is XR?

I am new to Wellbutrin. I have been forcing myself through the side effects so that I can say I gave it a fair shot. I started out taking the Wellbutrin SR 150mg once a day. The side effects were very uncomfortable, but nothing like you guys are describing. I experienced a strange sort of fatigue and a tenseness in my chest and throat. I also find I have the most awful taste in my mouth!!! I finally got to the point where I didn't notice it so much...then I started taking it twice a day. This started the whole set of side effects again.
Just a few days ago, I was given samples of Wellbutrin XL 300mg. I really like the once a day thing, but these side effects are really hard to get used to. I'm hoping they will diminish soon. But that nasty taste is still in my mouth. Anyone else notice this?

I forgot to mention that with the Wellbutrin XL my eyes are extremely dry and red and I stay thirsty. Along with the XL I was also put on Effexor for my nervousness/anxiety and sleeplessness, so I'm not sure which medication is causing it.

I have taken Wellbutrin SR in the past. Often times I forgot the second dose. I went off the Wellbutrin 3 months ago in hopes I would lose weight. I did not lose weight and have noticed my motivation has really diminished. I saw my Pdoc today and he prescribed Wellbutrin XL (because I only have to take it once). He said none of his patients are on it yet. I'm not sure if I should start out with the SR and then switch to XL. I'm looking forward to having energy again!!

Hmmmm,
I gained almost 50 lbs while on Zyprexa and Seroquel, it was NOT a pretty picture! Of course I was also on Effexor. I only began to lose this weight when I got off the Effexor and on the Wellbutrin which is, FOR ME, the best antidepressant. However, I CANNOT take the Wellbutrin with Prozac (warning) -- about 20% of the population cannot metabolize the two together.
I found this all out AFTER a horrendous psychotic break and four days in the "rubber room"! At first they blamed just the Wellbutrin, and I was greatly relieved to find out otherwise, as I have never taken such an effective antidepressant as Wellbutrin XR. I cannot take the new SR as I take to high a dose (200mgm AM and 200mgm PM).
Has anyone else had the Prozac/Wellbutrin problem?

I started out on 2x50mg, and I noticed even the first dose's effect, and it was pleasant. Now I am on 150mg XR, once a day, and I find that it made me anxious and even depressed. I have anger, too. The anxiety appears toward the end of the day, or even in the middle of the night if I wake up (last two days I did). I thought maybe the anxiety appears because the effect of the med weenes by then. However, maybe I am overdosing?! But it does seem to be the case that if I take another 150mg in the evening, the anxiety subsides. However, I didn't have anxiety before I started to take this thing. "Only" malaise, extreme sensitivity to noise shyness and general lack of coping skills.
Now should I increase or decrease my dose? Cut it into half?

The whole thing baffles me, because initially I reacted so well to Wellbutrin. Although it is also true that in the middle I stopped taking my 5HTP, because I thought I didn't need it any more. Now I resumed it but still feeel lousy.

SWITCHING TO WB XL...ANY ADVICE?

Wellbutrin has worked for my anxiety as well as depression & it does not make me tired at all. It has been great for me. I am on 150 mg 2 times a day (but I forget the 2nd dose alot) I am swtiching to the XL now. The only thing is that since I miss my second dose of 150 most nights, I am afraid the once a day of 300 will seem like a lot. Does anyone have a suggestion?? I could take the 150 of xl to start, but I have to get the whole prescription changed now. HELP or advice would be great*

If you havent had a lot of side effects from WBsr 2x a day you will probably be fine.
I started on WBsr 2x day and had lots of nasty SE. But the bennifit of having energy again motivated me to endure. After 2 1/2 weeks I was switched the WBxl and had only minimul side effects return. The XL seems to be smoother in delivery some how. Maybe my experience is completely subjective but Ive been happy with it.
I am still experiencing some side effects , mosly cognitive ones, so I may be switching to something else. Im in school and need to retain all the brain power I can.
best

How often do you forget that second dose? My opinion is that you should start off going for a two weeks faithfully taking that second dose before switching.

> what about starting the xl on 150mg once a day? I am out of the 150 sr.

It has been my experience with Wellbutrin that the side-effects can be tolerated if you build up slowly, like 2 x 100mg SR a day for two weeks, then 2 x 150mg a day. Whenever my (old) doctor started me on 2 x 150mg SR I had awful insomnia and snapped at people all the time. It was so weird: my kids would be doing something annoying that I'd usually be patient about for a while, but when I started WB with a highest dose from the get-go my irritability would ramp up in seconds and I'd snap at them. This would be so bad I'd stop taking WB. But I digress...

So, sure in my opinion, 150mg XL for a couple weeks, then 300mg XL should be tolerable.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR ADVICE/OPINION!!
I too get snappy at times on it. I guess I never really linked the two together. I just thought I was a highly irritable person. But I have a 2 & 3 year old...they need me all the time, every minute. I am pretty "normal" on the wellbutrin other than the irritablility factor. It really helps my depression and anxiety, even though some people can't take it for anxiety. I chose to tkae it because zoloft, paxil, etc. made me really fat and too mellow! DO YOU TAKE ANYTHING NOW??? *NK

I took Wellbutrin SR (150mgx2) for over a year 9 years ago (doctor #1); tried to take it 2 years ago (doctor #2, gave up because of the irritability); tried to take it 1 year ago (doctor #2, gave up because of the irritability); and have started on it again (doctor #3). The last two attempts I was nowhere near as 'depressed' as I am now. I put it in quotes because I mostly have a very hard time concentrating (what day is it today?), my short term memory sucks (forget where I put things), I eat too much, I would sleep too much if I could, and I get mild panic attacks and agoraphobia (in other words: atypical depression). My current doctor thinks I might be BP-II, as many believe that those of us previously dx with atypical depression and dysthymia actually have BP-II. This might make sense for me.. Anyway, I digress...

I re-started Wellbutrin 3 weeks ago. This time (new doctor because I moved) I started off at 100mg x 2 and had no side effects except for a few mild headaches. After two weeks I bugged my doctor to increase my dose, which she did to 150mgx2. I've been on that a week now and have colorful dreams and a little constipation. I'm not sure if I have insomnia as I've been taking 25mg of trazadone or 2 generic Benadryls at bedtime every night. Either they are working really well or I don't have insomnia. I'm too chicken not to take them because I have to get up early to get my son off to school. My boys are 4 and 6, so I know what you are going though.

What has really helped me out a lot is getting child care part of the time. My older boy started half-day preschool/daycare three days a week at age 3-1/2 and I cannot begin to tell you how much that saved my sanity only having one child, a toddler, at home. Plus, he was happier being around peers and doing lots of crafts and playing outside. Now my older boy is in elementary school and my younger boy is in preschool/daycare three days a week and I get to be *alone*. It is so much easier to parent if you get a break every now and then. When I am alone in the house after my husband leaves with our preschooler I just run around waving my arms in the air yelling "I'm alone! I'm alone!" Both boys were home all summer and I know that is what triggered my current depression. I didn't snap out of it when they went to school, however. Maybe it is PTSD, LOL. You know the saying "It takes a village"? I think of the daycare/preschool center as "the other village women." It's a win-win situation: I'm happy, my kids are happy. It was a struggle to afford it on one income at first, but now we are doing better financially and I know I am lucky.
