hey books ~

i don't know how much the THRIST may have subsided from adapting to lexapro
rather than
my concern about trying to stay hydrated because of my sense the importance of avoiding dehydration ... ....
... ... i have been drinking more water than ever in my life since i have been taking lex and i feel much better and stronger ...

you know, my lex experience has inspired me to drink more water ... ... Have I just been dehydrated my whole life until now?

now i am so conscientious about drinking enough water that it is as if i am on high alert for whenever i feel thristy ... ...

i have had regular headaches from my sinuses due to allergies ... ... these have diminished and i credit the extra water ... and maybe the lexapro?

good luck!!

Anyone had heart attack symptoms on lexapro??

I just got back from being in the hospital all night for what seemed like heart attack symptoms. My heart rate was high, arm and jaw pain, a burning sensation all through my chest and back. After tests all night and a stress test today, they find my heart is fine and are supspecting severe stress or side effects from the lexapro I started on Tuesdsay. Has anyone else expereinced this??

Lorrie,

I haven't.

Could it be gastrointestinal? My partner had a lot of heart tests done when it turned out to be a gall bladder problem. Also, my coworker had something similar -- was rushed to the ER with 'heart attack' symptoms, numbness down arm, trouble breathing, etc. -- turned out to be gastrointestinal.

A new medication _could_ cause this kind of gastrointestinal reaction. Your liver is processing something new, something it may not like.

Hope you're well soon.

On the Lexapro have started feeling like my old happy self and recognize that the behavior I was attibuting to others either didn't exist (on their part) or was in reaction to my own disfunction. Where do I go from here is - am I to stay on ADs forever, or should I just go with the flow and not worry about it for now? Family history is - grandmother institutionalized for pychotic behavior after post partum depression. Father alcoholic. Son is bi-polar.

if it were me in your shoes and the family past history i would enjoy the meds if you find one that makes you feel better. chances are if grandma had the meds we have she never would have been institutionalized. see ive been there done that with the post partum depression. my baby i caried 7 + months my only son, born dead. i was always a strong and happy go lucky person i could look death in the eye and carry on( had a death wish i guess) any way after the dead baby i had horrible post partum and the went straight in to post tramatic stress syndrom. raped at age three and beating by mommy dearest after words FOR I BROUGHT IT ON MYSELF DON'T YA KNOW... see at age three i still needed a little guidance in dressing my self. ( got shirts on inside out, backwards,etc... thats when any way that it happened) carried on the rest of life as well. thats enough of that. any way i tried to rough it out and damn near killed me and others because i couldn't funtions. yet i was afraid i was cracked if i took meds. 2 yrs went by and i got progressivly worse. DON'T DO THAT TO YOU AND YOURS. IF YOU CAN FIND A MED THAT MAKES YOU FEEL TEN PERCNT(PREFERABLY BETTER THAT THAT) BETTER YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY TO FELL BETTER AND HELP YOUR SELF. don't tell everyone though because not every one likes meds. they think you are cracked... when in actually they just don't know about meds. its afear they have about the unknown...
take care and i hope you find one that makes you feel 100% better

Hi Lorrie, I know this was very scary for you!!! I have had all the heart tests done also because of panic attacks which I thought were heart related. What were you given lexapro for? Was it depression, anxiety or panic. If this is the first time that this has happened then I will explain this way. Sometimes when a person starts meds a particular med can cause a panic attack. Sometimes they can can cause some heart related issue if thats indeed what happened. But thats very rare!!! Your heart rate being up is normal during a panic or anxiety attack. Did you have that pain when they were doing an EKG and other tests. If the tests were normal while still have the discomfort it sounds like panic or anxiety. There have been others that have had a panic attack when first starting a med. Cant recall if they kept taking the med and if this went away. Thats about all I can tell you!!! I would get with your doc and discuss your med!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Has anyone suffered from headaches, insomnia,or the inabilty to have an orgasm while taking Lex? Been on it 5 wks at 10 mg . Doc is considering switching to wellbutrin. Taking Lex for severe anxiety and depression. Also had heart attack symptoms about 2wks after starting it. If these symptoms will go away will somebody let me know. Also tried cutting back to 5mg ,didn't seem to help.

This is in answer to BLKVETTES's message. I had some sharp but short lived headaches when I first started Lexapro. I also had a bit of insomnia but one Tylenol PM pill took care of it. However I am only taking 2.5 mg of Lexapro for 4 weeks now - How long did you take the reduced dose of 5 mg? Maybe if you stayed on it or reduced again for a few weeks those bad SE would go away. I did not have the orgasm problem either - in fact I think my libido is a bit better. But everyone reacts differently which makes med choices so challenging.

I hope you find a solution for the SE's- good luck to you!

Started lex about a week ago, 5 mgs. Just bumped up to 10 mg. today.

I feel like a huge sleepyhead. I can't tell if I'm having PMS (sorry men), one of my weird-o painless migraine auras, or just Lexapro adjustment.

Anyone else get REALLY sleepy starting Lex? Like, it's my day off, and I really want to just lay around and watch tv all day, when I would normally be out hiking, at the gym, or socializing.

For this reason, I take it at night. Anyway, I would guess that the sleepiness you are experiencing is also from the medication, especially since you just increased your dose. I am hoping after time (as I adjust to it) that this tiredness will go away. As for now, I have to push myself harder to get to the gym, etc., but afterwards I feel alot better. Hope this helps. What a relief to read the posts of all of you who have experienced Lexapro withdrawal side effects. I took it for only 3 mos. It caused my bp/heart rate to go so low I thought I might die (like 30 beats per minute and bp of 84/45). I decided the only cause possible was the Lex, so went from 10 to 5 for three weeks, then dropped off entirely. Now about 7 days off and I am still so dizzy (it's something stranger than dizziness) and confused that I thought I was just NUTS. Am very drug sensitive. Am also experiencing a ringing sound in my head, intermittent muffling in my ears, major mood swings...and fear. Damn. Thanks to all of you who seem to have at least some of these w/drawal symptoms...thanks for sharing. I just pray this is not permanent.

I have been on Lexapro for about 5 weeks now I think. I recently was out in the sun for about 3 hours and found that I had a terrible sunburn. The sunburn is still around after one week, usually this only takes a couple days to turn to tan. The area is peeling but still red. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced oversensitivity to sun while on Lex.

Hi- Just read your post and it really frightened me (hope you don't take that the wrong way). It's just that I've been on Lex now for about three weeks and this is my first time on an anti-depressant. I'm not sure how long I will be on the med., but now after hearing about your experience with withdrawal and other's as well, I'm scared shitless. I'm wondering if it'd be easier just to stop taking it now after I've only been on it for a short time: seems that maybe my anxiety would be easier to deal with than the withdrawal. Did your doctor tell you that you'd have withdrawal symptons? I know mine didn't and that kinda pisses me off. A couple of nights ago I forgot to take my med., and yesterday felt so depressed and moody- now I know it was because I missed my dose. I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through, and I really want to give you credit. It takes alot of courage and strength to do what you're doing!! I really hope that this will all pass for you and that it will get easier. Take it one day at a time and remember that you are NOT nuts, even though it may feel that way sometimes- I've been there: feeling like I'm crazy and living in fear. It's not a fun place to be. Again, I sincerely hope it gets better for you! Hang in there and keep us posted- I'd like to hear how you progress. Arrianna

Hi there not everyone has the withdrawal but most do. One must decide whats best for them!!! You started taking a med for a reason. If that reason was something very minor then why start the med to begin with. A lot of docs dont even think withdrawal exists. I put up a link for paxil withdrawal!!!! This same strategy can be used to come off lexapro. No guarantees though on the withdrawal symptoms. But this should be done at a snails pace. 1mg makes a huge difference with lexapro. TAKE CARE!!!

Theump:
I recently got a really bad sunburn. I do not usually burn easy. Not sure if it was the lexapro or the zyrtec that I am taking for allergies but I am still peeling 3 weeks later. It never occured to me that Lexapro might be the culprit, I'll have to do some research on that.
