>Sorry about the insurance woes!!!! I think as far as these meds the insurance companies have no clue. Before the lexapro I ran up a bill of over $100,000 because of panic attacks. Long stays in the hospital and many tests. You would think it would be cheaper to get the person on the right med instead of risking paying bills for doctor and hospital visits. Makes no sense!!! Others on different boards have had to quit meds because of insurance problems. GOOD LUCK!!!!

sorry about that ... ...
hadn't meant to annoy / thought anyone would be
annoyed.fwiw, it's a regular practice here ...
and the reason why Dr. Bob offers us the
"no message, just post above subject"
option on our
"Enter Your Post" window ... ...

hi theo,
i share your sentiments, but we know we can't really express them that way here ... ... we are blessed that our civility police are watching ....
... ... and we can reasonably expect (because we have taken our meds) (well, i don't take my 10mg of Lexapro until noon yet ...) that telling folks to "stop their whining" will be considered kind of uncivil like, you know .... ........ .... (of course, me accusing you of being uncivil might be considered a put down and it could make you feel bad, And therfore i would be guilty of being uncivil to you, too (!) ... ... i have not meant to offend you nor bum you out either, man ... really)
hang in there!

.. of course our co-pays set amounts for like 30 day supply, independent of that dose per pill ... which of course explains what looks like you're getting a bargain compared to me: twice the lex at the same "price" (copay) .... but you know all that ... ...whereas we may believe the $78 (or whatever price) is a real world patient cost and would be like $2.60/20mg pill ... compared to your 84cents/pill ... ... maybe ... i could try to look up online prices for lex ...
more to my point is the very idea of ANYONE (other than your own health care professional and your own self) choosing your antidepressant
IS INSANE !!!!!!!
thanks for letting me vent some more!

I was wondering if any of you folks felt DIFFERENTLY on Celexa than you did on Lexapro? I too have felt Lexapro's anxiety side effects (I've only been on it 3 or 4 days)....but when I took one of my mom's Celexa tabs a couple of weeks ago, I didn't get that feeling at all...it just made me feel sort of tired (mellow)...of course I only took ONE Celexa pill for just ONE day, just to see what sort of reaction I'd get....but, again, have any/many folks mentioned that Lexapro makes them feel differently than Celexa? If so, how?
THANKS!!!

>Hi there, if Im correct your either taking zoloft or coming off it right. When coming off zoloft one of the symptoms can be anxiety. So when we dont wean of a med before starting another we really have no clue which med is giving us the symptoms or side effects. So at this point no one could tell you if it is the zoloft or the lexapro. Im not saying what the doc is having you do is wrong. Because you would get a different answer from each doc. So you really have to wait 30 days before the zoloft is out of your system. When I first started meds I was on paxil, then zoloft and xanax. I was truly messed up. The doc wanted me to start a new med. I refused and went cold turkey which was wrong. I should have weaned myself off everything. But after 30 days or so I got my senses back in order.I then went to lexapro and anything I felt, there was no confusion on which med was causing what. TAKE CARE!!!

My insurance company would only pay half even though they listed it as not being covered. i think the total cost was 60 something and i ended up paying 30 something. boy - have i gotten an education regarding insurance companies and mental health!! i've been having a hard time finding a good psych. who is covered by my insurance company!! talk about run-around - they so far have given me three names of doctors, only to find out when i call that the doctors dropped this insurance company years ago. they (the insurance monsters) said they forgot to update???? very frustrating. how can this be? kinsey

Hi Kinsey, yes they are monsters!!!!! Our insurance carrier changed the first of the year and they tried to switch all the meds I take. I pay nothing for pdoc visits but I can only choose a doc from this one group who all use the same office. I have been through 4 of them in a short time. I just made up my mind to educate myself and see the doc for my meds. The insurance companies pay out over 40 billion dollars a year because doctors fail to detect anxiety and panic disorders at the very beginning. People keep running back to the ER or their family doctor because they think they are dying. I ran up a bill of over 100,000 dollars before I was diagnosed. The insurance company payed every dime of it. But they want to fight me over my meds which is pennies compared to what they spent. The doctors need to be better educated on these disorders. But then again they make more money by running the same tests over and over again. GOOD LUCK!!!

Maybe I won't make any friends with this belief, but I really don't think insurance companies are *always* monsters. I too was disappointed to find out that my insurance would only cover lexapro in part (I pay $35 copay) but at least they cover part of it. I don't know everyone's particulars, but sometimes I think for how little I pay for insurance (my costs are less than the retail cost of lexapro - I'm sure some of you pay much more), it's a pretty good deal to know that I'll be covered in a big expensive traumatic emergency. I'm sure some of you have had or heard of bad experiences with insurance companies who wouldn't cover people's huge bills - I have too - but I'm saving my complaints for those situations when they really are evil instead of my $35 co-pay. I've always gotten more out of insurance than I've paid in (not including my employer's contibution), which I think is remarkable.
That's how I feel given my personal experience. I'm not particularly a fan of insurance companies, I'm just saying this to maybe give you another point of view so you won't be so angry about things that are, for the most part, out of our control.
