'Just doing it for the money' was something that I used to wonder / worry about, too. I have a whole lot more sympathy for that now. Appreciating that if certain aspects of your life run smoothly then you simply have more time and energy to put all your own crap (worrying about bills etc) out of your head and focus... On doing your job / helping your patients. If you didn't get a good nights sleep because of the rowdy neighbors and you are cranky that some dude was totally feeling you up on the crowded bus and you are kinda hungry because you were too tired to get up in time to pack lunch and you can't afford to buy proper lunch every day / you are getting a sugar crash after eating that candy bar from the vending machine... Then your patients are going to suffer.
I think the move from public practice into private practice or the move from working with all insurers to only working with your preferred insurers isn't so much motivated by money... as it is motivated by the relative lack of paperwork and administration hassles of dealing with bureaucracy / stingy companies trying to get out of covering your patients / paying you. I don't really know anything about it... But that is my suspicion... More of not having to deal with that sh*t anymore... So one is better able to properly do ones actual job.
