A birthday party! I'll have to use that line sometime! lol...
I agree with Maria01 about it being none of their business, but I always feel compelled to say something. I usually say that - I have to shop, run errands, check on my 4 dogs at home, etc., but never say anything like a walk or dining, just in case they want to join me.
I don't like lying about it, but I wouldn't want to deal with their questions or looks if they knew about my therapy world.
