I'm at the stage in my therapy when we're starting to address reparenting myself. My homework has been to unbox my childhood books that I had put away many years ago, and start to reread them, one by one. I'm also to keep a journal - T suggested one in my maiden name, but it makes me happy just to see it written on the inside cover of most of the books, so I've been keeping my notes on my computer instead.
Mostly I've been writing recollections about what it was like the first time I remember reading the books; the solace and companionship that I found in the pages, and how I've been able to rediscover some of those feelings just by reading them again.
I've found that, just as when I was a child, I would have read some stories a chapter at a time, I am only able to reread them the same way. To finish one chapter and then continue on feels like "too much" for one day, which is pretty curious.
I have many books by English authors and am currently enjoying those by Enid Blyton, and E. Nesbit.
Has anyone else gone through a similar exercise, and what has your experience been?
