hi Matt-
check the book out, don't buy it! And don't go overboard when you read the book and decide that you have this or that disorder or symptom. before you get started, write down the symptoms that are actually hurting your relationships, hindering your achievement of your goals, and symptoms that are truly distressing to you.If you do something that's not completely typical (like collecting old vacuum cleaners)- you may just have a "quirk"- it's not pathological unless it's actually hurting your finances, or you develop obsessive or disordered thinking about your collection.
I was amazed when watching a TV show that in PA every year there is a convention of hundreds of people who collect ice-cream scoops and other ice-cream paraphenalia. They looked pretty normal to me. I often feel like a freak because I only listen to classical music. Adolescence is hard like that. Anything that makes you feel different from your peers is magnified a hundred-fold and it's hard to put things in perspective and not to constantly compare yourself to some ideal.
There are a lot of cool books out there. You might enjoy some of Tom Wolfe's stuff- he writes about a lot of interesting real-life characters.
