My understanding is that the re-uptake action begins pretty much right away, and that is why you feel something quickly: The transporters ARE being blocked and your synapses ARE being flooded with serotonin.
However, the anti-depression/anxiety effect is believed to come from the eventually DOWN-REGULATION of 5ht receptors from the bombardment of extra serotonin (in a complicated set of steps I can't assume to understand).
I experience the same phenomenon. And it is a very specific serotonergic reaction so I don't believe it's completely placebo.
Perhaps one of the higher level guys on the board can shed more light.
