Last month I had to switch from Teva clonazepam (no longer manufactured) to the Actavis brand. I initially didn't do well on Actavis, but eventually adjusted. I was about to go on the Teva wafers (which I got an RX for), but decided against it since I was seeming to do well on what I was presently taking.
Things were going great until yesterday, when, about 20 minutes after taking my morning clonazepam dose, I suffered a panic attack a few blocks from my house. (I hadn't had one since 2012.) So as soon as I got home I grabbed a Teva wafer (0.125 mg) for the first time. It calmed me in the familiar way that the brand always worked. Since it looked like I had to switch back to Teva, I took a second pill in the evening. Soon after taking it, I felt what I will describe as an "uncomfortable rush", as if it was some kind of stimulant. It didn't reach the level of anxiety, but it prevented me from sleeping. A few hours later I took a small dose of the Actavis brand, and felt a bit calmer.
Is it normal to feel a paradoxical effect from a Benzo? It was a brand that always worked smoothly for me, though the inactive ingredients are different. Would this be a side effect that would eventually pass? Or is this an indication that my body chemistry has changed somehow causing me to have an unusual response now to clonazepam?
Also, is it safe to mix different brands of the same medication?
