11beta-HSD1 is an enzyme that converts cortisone to cortisol. By inhibiting 11beta-HSD1 you can lower cortisol levels.
A quick google search for 11beta;-HSD1 inhibitors reveled:
-green tea (medium)
-curcumin (strong)
-emodinand others. I wonder if some of the antidepressant effect of curcumin is through a direct cortisol lowering effect.
I wonder if specific cortisol blockers would augment antidepressants? The HPA normalizing effect of traditonal antidepressants can take weeks, and often involves interaction with monoamines.Linkadge
