In reply to Neurontin for anxiety as needed, posted by Lamdage22 on May 20, 2016, at 11:36:00
Hi Lamadge,
i've been on it for a few years and it works really well on general anxiety. My suggestion would be to start with 100mg TID and go from there. sometimes that is enough and works well for folks. i use 300mg anywhere from 2-5x day depending on what my needs are. Typically when i am struggling with alot of anxiety i use daily at 3x. but right now i only have mild and to keep on top of it i use twice daily. about 11am and then about 6 or 7pm. if having rough day i slip one in about 2 pm.
the only thing i dont like about it is that (at least for me) it takes about 2 hours before it really 'kicks in' for me. Which is frustrating. So there are times where i will take a gabapentin and also a small amount of benzo so that i have immediate releif in small amount, knowing in a couple hours i will have total coverage.
For me gabapentin has worked really well. I have noticed one other thing. It seems to work better if you take it regularly and at regular times, regardless if you think you have anxiety or not. i wouldnt suggest using it PRN. You can PRN the amount, but not On/Off. If you do you could experience headaches or moodiness, and also it just doesnt seem to work as well.
Best wishes!
