Would your doctor consider using buprenorphine in place of the methadone? Tramadol is anther opioid that is less addictive and less euphoric than the others. It is a bit weak, though.
You might want to look into low-dose naltrexone (LDN).
I'm sure that Linkadge, someone who posts on Psycho-Babble frequently, can offer you more ideas regarding the manipulation of the opioid system.
