I know very little about how neurotransmitters work. There seems to be a huge focus on ssri's but I don't hear much about dopamine. Assuming a depressed person is dopamine depleted, doesn't respond to ssri's or srni's, it seems dopamine agonists would be the answer. That would include stims, wellbutrin, and the like, right?
Why aren't there more a/d's that focus on dopamine release as opposed to reuptake inhibition? And why aren't meds for condions like Parkinson's being used for such patients as a/d's? Would they work?
Stims seem to be the only answer but my knowledge is limited. I can't prove this but I have the feeling that parnate releases dopamine. Am I wrong? I also have the feeling dexedrine is more of a "releaser" and ritalin is more of a "reuptake inhibitor".
Anyone?
