Re: TIaneptine and dosage

For me, it feels like tianeptine dampens down noradrenergic activty the higher the dose I take. When I stopped tianeptine abruptly I flipped into hypomania. It felt like a sudden surge of noradrenaline. Often I find it hard to concentrate when I take a large dose - feel 'spacey', particularly when I'm drving, and that scares me. I told my pdoc today it feels like a mood stabilizer. He was worried it might make me manic (I have bipolar I), but I explained what had happened to me.

In the thread I posted to you above, I said tianeptine was as effective for me as Parnate, but without the hassle of dietary restrictions and fewer side effects. I can't praise enough how tianeptine brought me out of that dark hole so quickly. No other drug has been so powerful and so fast as tianeptine (but amisulpride comes close second). If I had to try and describe the effect of tianeptine I'd say it's like all the goodness of an opiate, but without the euphoria. Someone was actually looking for such a drug a few weeks ago, but I was reluctant to suggest it in case he thought I was suggesting it just because I was taking it at the moment.

>But tianeptine seems to be more "stabaliising", per its name, so if i'm wondering if doubling or even tripling the dose typically leads to a hypomanic like response in anyone's experience. As that is kinda what im looking for -- push to hypomania, then back off a bit.

Parnate is more likely to fit the bill here due to its stimulant action, but I wouldn't recommend it for that purpose. I think I know what you mean about the hypomania - it's a very enjoyable and productive state, but tianeptine can give you a strong boost in a short period of time while actually protecting against mania, if not hypomania. That's been my experience of it anyway, but it won't be the same for everyone. Why do you want to experience hypomania again? Do you have a bipolar disorder?

P.S. I take tianeptine with 100mg Lamictal, and that might make a difference.
