Hi, Just came across this post as I was seeking out info regarding these drugs/supplements. I have been taking Lamictal for a number of years for Bipolar and it seems to have (and this is the professional term used by some) "pooped out." It is effective more for my moods than the depression.
My Psych Nurse recently went to a conference where she learned about how folate can work with Lamictal to give it that boost.
After searching online, I came across much info. But, the most informative for a patient such as myself was the site for Deplin - which is L-Methylfolate (One Deplin® 7.5mg tablet is bioequivalent to taking sixty-six 800 mcg folic acid pills). L-Methylfolate can be absorbed quickly by our system where folate sometimes isn't absorbed well especially by people suffering from depression.
Ok, this is a lot of info, but basically, there is hope...which some of us need. It is prescribed, but not paid for by insurance, so take advantage of the Deplin site, speak with your psych or psych nurse, and print out the coupon they have.
Hope this helps.
