I know SOMEONE out there has to have a good story about Paxil, but if you didn't respond well to other SSRIs ... I don't know. Paxil blew my anxiety through the roof, to the point of one panic attack with some spooky visual hallucinations.
On the other hand, when withdrawal effects from paxil made things even worse, my pdoc started me on wellbutrin earlier than planned. I can't say how much paxil was in my system as I titrated down on that versus wellbutrin in my system as I titrated up, but those were some of the more lucid, at-ease moments I've had. I haven't tried the combo again -- I'm terrified to -- because each of those two separately were nightmares for me. Maybe someone more knowledgeable has a theory about what synergistic effect they might have.
Have you thought of a different atypical antipsychotic? Abilify or Lamictal? For me, Zyprexa worked like a charm but put my triglycerides over 900. Yikes!! I was on Lamictal alone and it was fairly effective for me (not as good as Zyprexa) until a life event kicked my PTSD into high gear again -- then came the Abilify as well. That helped even more. Just a thought....
