Anafranil can have some anticholinergic side effects like dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, urinary retention and delayed micturition, and increased heart rate to name a few.It is advisable to start at a low dosage and increase it gradually, especially if you have never been on a tricyclic before. These side effects can mitigate over time.
Because Anafranil is a potent serotonin reuptake inhibitor, you might incur sexual side effects similar to what the SSRIs are known to cause.
Anafranil can be a dirty drug, but is often worthwhile in the long run. Of the TCAs, it has the highest success rate in treating depression. It is also considered by many to be the best drug for treating OCD.
If you are looking for an alternative, Nardil is a broad-spectrum drug with efficacy in depressive, anxiety, and OCD disorders.
