> I have had treatment resistant depression and social anxiety disorder for about 24 years. I've tried nearly every medication available with little success. In 1997 I was hospitalized and given 24 ECT treatments that barely helped for a short while. I also tried the maoi's and had a good initial response with Parnate. It made me feel better by far than any other drug i had tried. The problem was that it didn't last. The only drug used at that time for augmentation was cytomel, and I was also taking and still am taking 6 mgs. of ativan a day. I felt great for a few days then Parnate would "poop-out" and my pdoc would increase the dose And I would do great for a few days, etc. finally I was up to 140 mgs. of parnate 100 mg. a.m. and 40mg early afternoon. when it quit working my doc took me off it. I also experienced insomnia, and afternoon parnate fatigue. Anyway, it's now 2006 and my same pdoc thinks we should try Parnate again. I agree, but what I have learned is that you must augment parnate with other drugs-mood stabilizers etc. to keep it working. My pdoc agrees with this. So anyone with knowledge of the best augmentation drugs to combine with parnate please help me out. My pdoc says he's open to most things except stimulants. Any suggestions will be appreciated- I'm so tired of feeling lousy!!

Tyler, you and I are two of a kind. I have struggled like you for many years trying to find a lasting treatment. Parnate works for 3 months for me. Raising the dose up to 100mg's never worked. I am currently on Nardil 75mg's it worked at 60mg's for 3 months then failed. I have decided to switch back to Parnate and augment with Lithuim or Lamictal first. I read where others have added Wellbutrin, Vivactil, stimulants and various other meds. My current Pdoc will not likely prescribe many things like that with the Parnate, but will prescribe Lithium or Lamictal. If those don'nt work I will have to search around for a more helpfull Pdoc. Best wishes.
