You ask a great set of questions regarding the role that histamine might play in your condition or atypical depression in general. I don't know the answers. However, it is accurate to portray atypical depression as a condition that does not necessarily including depressed mood as a symptom.
Histamine is not acted upon by MAO (monoamine oxidase), but rather, by DAO (diamine oxidase). An MAOI would not raise the levels of histamine directly. I don't know the consequences of administering an DAO inhibiting agent. Histamine is also metabolized through a second route that involves histamine-N-methyltransferase (HNMT). Perhaps both enzymes would be necessary to inhibit to have the desired effect.
