I personally would most likely pick a psychiatrist who is an instructor at a medical college, and maintains at least part of his or her practice in a big hospital clinic. The reasons are:
1) Someone like that would be pre-screened by the medical school and probably would be competent.
2) Also, clinics see a lot of patients and the data is generally pooled and available to the other p-docs.
3) If you live in the US, the pdoc will likely accept insurance when you see him or her at the clinic. In other settings, my experience is that most pdocs do not accept insurance as payment in full.> Ok. This is probably supposed to be on the Psychology board, but I posted there and got no response.
