In reply to Why does EVERYONE think a PILL solves all?????????, posted by DoYouKnowHim? on August 29, 2005, at 4:56:06
I'm sorry, but the right medications basically did solve the problems I was looking for them to solve.
It is incoherent to think of a pill providing things that the external world or effort provides; however, without the medications I was incapable of exerting that effort or feeling comfortable enough in the world--nor in my own skin--to better myself.
I used to be dysthymic, socially phobic, unable to follow through anything to completion, etc. Now I work out 2-3 hours 4-5 days a week, run miles at a time, steadily hold down employment, socialize with my coworkers, etc. It's a no-brainer! for instance, I never felt what a runner's high was truly like until being on these medications.
Sure, Nardil doesn't teach me how to talk to people, nor does it bring me to the gym. But it does allow the favorable aspects of my personality and person to shine through; now I can LEARN how and dare say enjoy doing it. And now I ENJOY athletic activity.
I had never been able to play a game of frisbee before starting these medications. Now, it's easy. There are pictures in my family photo album of me at my first birthday party. Despite being surrounded by tons of people smiling at me cheering for me, I was petrified with fear. I could go on and on.
