It is not uncommon these days to find many
publications repeating a theory that was
prevalent in the 1800s -- that depression
may just be one disease with various sub-types
depending on the physiological variations.So, it would not be surprising to see that
certain music types fit in with the cyclothymic
rhythm of moods - heavy metal can be depressing
as well as loud, and bluegrass can be upbeat
and cheerful. In agitated states, no sound
is the best sound.Sleep and appetite are notorious indicators
of depression, be it in bipolar or unipolar.
And there are certain hypomanic or hypodepressive
states if you like, which can be conducive
to creativity -- at the extremes you might
get Goya or Metallica for example. Jimi Hendrix
was probably manic. Affective disorders seem
to have something to do with the metabolic tempo,
to put it in really non-scientific terms.Squiggles
