I would look more towards the possibility that you are experiencing a cognitive dulling as the stimulant wears off, or possibly that it is just a natural "down" time revolving around your circadian rhythm. I don't think that the effects of cortisol are so instantaneous. I would have to do some more snooping around to feel confident in that statement, though.

The real damage that cortisol inflicts is when it is chronically elevated and damages areas of the brain critical for memory function (hippocampus).
