In reply to UK babblers help! Importing legal issues, posted by jclint on December 18, 2004, at 14:29:02
Hello J,
I am not an expert in pharmacy law by any stretch of the imagination but I'll still attempt to answer your question!!
>Would it be legal to import something like EmSam *without* a prescription?
Selegiline is a prescription-only medicine (POM). Possession of a POM without a prescription is illegal. This is covered under the UK Medicines Act 1968.
>Would it be possible to get a prescription from my doc and then order it from abroad?
I think that this would be possible if your doctor was willing. Unlicensed drugs (ie. not 'approved by the MHRA) are used by hospital consultants in the UK. This is not illegal. If EMSAM was available abroad, you would need to ask the Pharmacy to order it for you. It wouldn't be legal for you to order it yourself.
