Effexor, Discontinuation and Blood Tests

Posted by Mile High on July 11, 2004, at 14:40:22

Hello folks,

First of all, my sincere thanks to Dr Bob and those who post here. It is nice to know I am not the only one with similar situation(s).

I was diagnosed with GAD about two years ago and have been on Effexor XR 75mg q.d. My psychiatrist said that the GAD fix was 90% up to me and that the Effexor would help with the remaining 10%. I have not seen him for 18 months and I feel that I am better. Knowing what he said about the 90/10 rule, I want to try leaving the medicine behind. Also, I am applying for a new job and I would rather not say that I have been taking Effexor during the physical exam. I want to discontinue Effexor use and know that a slow, methodical approach is the way to go. I fear the dizziness and headaches, though.

My question, after all this, is the possibility of Effexor showing up in a blood test. I am not taking any other meds. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you so much.
